re: Shrek Score at the Tonys...
 May 29 2009, 10:10:45 AM

Both wrong. I love the music AND the lyrics. Though I can see that it's not a perfect score, there is MUCH to be admired in it. What's dragging down Shrek's chances is just the competition. In a weaker year, they'd take the Tony home. In a stronger year, they wouldn't even be nominated. I think it's a more than solid showing from the composer AND the lyricist, and there's no need to knock either. I look forward to future scores from both of them.

I was thrilled for Angela Lansbury, but besides that I was bored out of my mind. Glad they cut the musical numbers, but geez, hardly anyone showed up to collect their awards.

re: Oh, Esposito, and Tenney Join RABBIT HOLE Film

John Gallagher IS too old for the part. The guy's well into his twenties now, and the part is of a high school student. I'm not surprised they cast an unknown actor as the kid.

The other actors they're adding are all really interesting (I love Sandra Oh!) but I wonder who they're playing, and how they've pumped up the screenplay. The play is only five characters.

Counting the days for this. It looks and sounds amazing.

Is it really possible we're going to have another GOOD movie musical?

re: Rabbit Hole interview with John Cameron Mitchell
 May 15 2009, 02:07:54 PM

The biggest news to me here is that John Cameron Mitchell is directing. What a strange choice for him. Hedwig is one of my favorite shows of all time. It's so funny thinking of him directing something so straight-laced as Rabbit Hole. Although judging from the video, he obviously has a strong connection to the material. I didn't know he had a four year old brother pass away when he was younger. So sad.

I'm eager to see how this movie turns out.
