THE LAST FIVE YEARS Previews
 Mar 17 2025, 09:27:52 AM

Best of luck to everyone involved in the production. I'm amazed we haven't had a Broadway staging of The Last 5 Years before and I'm excited to see the show receive a much wider audience.

Nick Jonas and Adrienne Warren to star in THE LAST FIVE YEARS Broadway Revival

Are they offering a Jamie is Over discount? He's got quite a hole to dig himself out of if that performance was indicative of their power balance.

THE GREAT GATSBY Opening Night Critics’ Reviews
 Mar 14 2025, 06:40:22 AM

Finally saw this yesterday. It's better than I thought it would be.

The current cast has beautiful voices and really sings the show well. We had Austin Colby on for Tom and he was really good. You could easily see how people were drawn to Tom despite his brutish flaws.

The costumes are spectacular live. Holy hell Linda Cho knocked it out of the park. I also really like the use of the projector screens and moving panels on the set. The depth created to show the social differe

Free Museums/Galleries Within Walking Distance of Times Square
 Mar 10 2025, 01:34:10 PM

This is about what I figured. It's probably going to be closer to 3 hours, but we can stick with window shopping as necessary. It's times like this I actually miss that stupidly large Toys R Us. That was always a good time waster with all the giant displays upstairs.

Thank you all for the advice.

Free Museums/Galleries Within Walking Distance of Times Square
 Mar 10 2025, 10:45:55 AM

Thank you for any advice you may have. I've been added as a chaperone to see a 2pm matinee of The Great Gatsby on Thursday, March 13, and I'm pretty sure the organizers booked way too much travel time to make it to the theater with time for lunch.

I'm looking for suggestions of free museums or galleries within walking distance of Times Square. I'll be with a group of a dozen high school students. I'd rather not be roaming all the shops in Times Square for a few hour

I'm pretty close to the start. I lurked and then joined.

Ah, the Duane Reade Theater. Right down the block from the historic McDonalds Time Square, a beloved venue for freezing non-equity actors.

Report: The Phantom of the Opera May Be Readying an Off-Broadway Return

I know you probably can’t but I’m insanely curious if there’s any insight you can give about what this may be. With the rumored price tag I wouldn’t mind hearing a reason that’ll turn me off to spending $200 on this lol.
"

The "Chandelier Drop" will actually be a drop-tower ride, in the area where it's open to the floors below on the plans. You'll actuallyridethe chandelier down. You heard it here first!wink
"

You joke, but imagine how camp it would be if this Phantom was an indoor theme park ala Area 15 in Vegas. Get a birds eye view of the catwalk before crashing down on the performance on the Chandelier Drop Tower. Feel the flames in your face as you ride the Grotesque Gondola to the Phantom's Layer. Dance to the music of the night playing from the world largest pipe organ. Explore the blacklight maze of backstage spaces to find your guiding ghost light in this never-before-seen Phantom of the Opera.

Modern musical choices for Encores!

The first one to come to mind for me is Bat Boy. Could you imagine the cast they could pull together for an Encores-length run of that show?

Well someone had to make that obligatory preview post.

TAMMY FAYE Reviews
 Nov 15 2024, 12:16:11 PM

Wow. I didn’t know so many NYC theater critics were hateful Broadwayworld users.

In all seriousness, these reviews might be the death knoll of the show. I don’t wish failure on the production, but it will be hard to overcome this reaction.

Finale ceases support, acquired by Dorico: a quiet theatre industry shake-up
 Aug 26 2024, 03:48:10 PM

Yeah, this is going to have a monumental impact on composers, arrangers, and anyone who works with modern sheet music. Finale was still the theater industry standard in America, for sure.

I switched out to MuseScore years ago because I hate pay to play proprietary software, but switching to any other program is going to require a whole lot of retraining and file conversions that will cost a ton of money.

Rachel Zegler to star in 'Hunger Games' prequel
 Oct 28 2023, 07:52:56 PM

The novel has a ton of lyrics in it. Zegler's playing a member of the Coveys, who are kind of musical outsiders in the more straight laced District 12 community. They sing, dance, and entertain the miners after long days of work. The songs are key plot points for a lot of the stories being told.

Sondheim/Ives HERE WE ARE @ The Shed
 Sep 29 2023, 04:28:51 PM

I've not seen the stageshow, but I have done extensive research on the films. I don't think watching either film will help you understand what's happening in the show (or the films for that matter). The films are absurdist fantasies with a dark sense of humor.

Any updates on "ROOM" ?
 Aug 21 2023, 01:03:30 PM

Oh, Nerds. I remember Nerds having a table at NYCC forever ago promoting their upcoming Broadway run.

Hope Room shows up somewhere, but it's hard to bounce back from announcing and canceling a Broadway run.

^That production was at NYTW, I believe - and for those wondering, it was an Ivo Van Hove joint. He did it again with Ruth Wilson in London, which I saw. I believ

There are some productions where it works, and some where it doesn't, just like any other theatrical conceit.

The most effective use I've seen wasn't intermission, but it was preshow. This was Hedda Gabler at the Public with Elizabeth Marvel. If you didn't see this production, it was done with a stage up front and a walkway surrounding the audience. Cast members could enter and exit from the back of the house. The audience was basically trapped inside with Hedda. Marvel

HERE LIES LOVE - Broadway Previews
 Jun 24 2023, 11:24:50 PM

I heard the new radio ad a few times on my drive today. They're stressing that the show is ultimately about the people's revolution and Imelda Marcos is not a hero. Doesn't guarantee it reads that way in the actual performance, but it is the intended perspective.

Josh Gad & Andrew Rannells: GUTENBERG and/or THE PRODUCERS revival to Broadway?

Gutenberg is an absolute riot with the right casting. I saw a local production a few years ago that had me laughing so hard I was in tears. Great music, too.
