By Andrew Gans
February 11, 2005
Anthony Rapp, who recently starred in the tour of Little Shop of Horrors, will take part in a reading of brother Adam Rapp's Bingo with the Indians March 6.The 7 PM reading is part of the Artists Showcase Series and will be presented at Makor. Directed by Carolyn Cantor, the performance will also feature the talents of John Gallagher Jr., Mandy Siegfried and Adam Stein.
Set in a New Hampshire motel room, Bingo with the Indians, according to production notes, is a "pitch-black comedy about a small, frustrated theatre troupe from Manhattan who plans to rob a famous local Bingo game in rural New Hampshire so they can afford to produce their play in the East Village." The play comes with this warning: Due to mature and graphic subject matter and themes, discretion is advised.
Anthony Rapp created the role of Mark Cohen in the Broadway and London productions of Rent. His other theatrical credits include Hedwig and the Angry Inch; You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown; Precious Sons; Six Degrees of Separation; Bright Lights, Big City; Raised in Captivity; Trafficking in Broken Hearts; Youth Is Wasted; Sophistry; and The Destiny of Me. Rapp's film credits feature roles in "A Beautiful Mind," "Adventures in Babysitting," "School Ties," "Dazed and Confused" and "Six Degrees of Separation."
Adam Rapp has penned Finer Noble Gases, Blackbird, Gompers, Stone Cold Dead Serious, Trueblinka and Nocturne.
Makor is located in Manhattan at 35 West 67th Street, between Central Park West and Columbus Avenue. Tickets, priced at $15, are available by calling (212) 601-1000 or by visiting www.makor.org. A portion of the evening's proceeds will benefit the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric Aids Foundation.
