#0non-eq at Equity auditions
Posted: 7/9/04 at 10:44pmI have never tried to go to an Equity audition, but I really want to. It seems like all the auds that really interest me are equity. I was wondering if anyone could tell me how to go about doing this and give any suggestions for getting seen. Also are the monitors cool about it or jerks and embarrass you? Just wondering. Thanks

All you do at any of the Equity auditions is get there early and sign up on the non-Equity list. Then, if there is room, they will see non-Equity performers, calling them in order on that list. The monitors are very cool. Just be polite and pay attention to any instructions they give you.
So, let's say the audition begins at 10 a.m. You might get there at 8 a.m. (earlier if it is a really popular audition--ya just never know). At some point before 9 a.m., you will be able to sign up on the list (usually at whatever time they let folks into the building/offices/wherever the audition is being held). When the monitor shows up, they often tell you to come back at a certain time when they will have information as to whether they will be seeing non-Equity actors. If the audition is really full--they will not.
Dance calls are probably easiest to get into.

Posted: 7/9/04 at 11:21pmi was wondering about that myself. b/c i really want to attend the 'bare' auditions coming up, and was concerned about the fact that they are Equity auditions, and I am not (as of yet) an AEA member.

Posted: 7/9/04 at 11:35pmSome (few) auditions are indeed "open calls" that include both non-Eq and Eq fairly. Bare had some the first time through.

Posted: 7/9/04 at 11:48pmyeah, i found the notices online about the initial bare auditions AFTER i saw it the first time (a lotta good that did). i did know about the open calls, but was just a little confused as to whether non Equity actors would have an opportunity (if time/etc allows) to auditions for those calls. thanks jrb.
