So my wife, her sister and great friend went yesterday to the contest at the Rockaway Mall. Close to 70 contestants and many parents in the audience (mostly female). She said most of the girls sang Defying Gravity and the Wizard and I. She also said most of the contestants were teenagers, but there were a handful of older people there. The judges only gave a minute for each person and if you sang with the karaoke, they would only start at the beginning of the song. Lots sang acapella. Overall, everyone was pretty decent. They picked 4 finalists (three girls, one boy). One of the girls looked about 6 years old (sang Popular), another was 13 (sang Defying Gravity...obsessed with the show and Idina Menzel) and the other looked about 14 (sang For Good...this girl was hands down the best of the day apparently), the boy was about 14 (sang One Short Day). Everyone got a new magnet or pin. She said it was a funny and surreal experience.

Hahaha... too funny. I'm going to see the LI auditions with my friend on Friday, and then we'll be @ the block party on Saturday. I was considering singing... lol, there's no way i'm making a fool out of myself for a pin and magnet. I'd rather enjoy making fun of the teeny boppers dressed in pink dresses and witch hats.

Thanks Paulie

You should still sing in it. It's good for your soul and you can always add "contestant" on your resume...haha. One girl drove all the way from Wisconsin to be in it. She sang Popular and dressed up. My wife said she looked so tween when singing (and was good), but they spoke afterwards, and it turns out she was 25 and a school teacher.

My wife dressed up hard core. She figured, if you're gonna geek out, geek out all the way. She was suprised how many people approached her for pictures (even at the food court) and green make-up tips.

haha... that's awesome.

I can understand geeking out... we made shirts for Wicked Day on Saturday... enough said.

I'll let you know if I gather my strength and actaully sing... but either way, i'll be in full Wicked spirit.
