Feeling Electric

I saw Feeling Electric last night, and wow, what a great musical. The staging was very bare bones, no set, simple costumes and all cast members just sat on chairs on the side of the stage when they weren't performing. The cast also had scripts, but they were pretty good about not using them too often.

The show is basically sung through, very little dialogue and the music is great. Amy Spanger is the lead character with the rest of the cast playing supporting roles. In fact, Anthony Rapp's role is not very big at all. Needless to say, everyone gave fabulous performances.

Just a warning, the show is long, about 2 hours and 50 minutes.

re: Feeling Electric

I'm seeing it next week, and I can't freaking wait. That's odd about the time, though - the website says it's two hours. Then again, maybe they'll make some cuts as the festival draws on? I remember seeing Caligula last year, and it was forever long.

re: Feeling Electric

The website does say 2 hours so from 9:00 on I kept thinking every song would be the last before intermission. By 9:30 I figured they were just going to perform without an intermission, but I was wrong. The first act is about an hour and 40 min. There are about 45 songs in the show. Granted, some are reprises or really short and theres pretty much no dialogue, but thats still really long. If it does get a commercial run (which it should) they will definately have to make cuts.

re: Feeling Electric

Saw last night's performance too. Amy Spanger (not Spangler re: Feeling Electric) was brilliant.

I saw the Seattle reading with Spanger and May. It was god awful. Hopefully they made a lot of changes since then.

Am I the only one who sees this title and hears "Boogey-oogey-oogey. You can do it. It's electric. Boogey-oogey-oogey"?

I saw it in Seattle too. While it wasn't perfect, I admired the performances and the fact that it truly is, in my opinion, an original musical, not being based on anything. I, personally, think it would work really well as a 100 minute one act. It took too long for the story to start going, and it couldn't figure out who's story it wanted to tell. And Amy Spanger was fabulous, as was the rest of the cast. I'm sure they're getting a lot of good input from the cast and Peter Askin. I hope it has a great future.

re: Feeling Electric

I saw it tonight, and literally, wow is about all i can come up with. I have never been that genuinely emotionally affected by a show before, and more than that, the show was so real (the story, the lyrics, the performances). I actaully went up to Amy after the show (she is soo nice, she was with friends and took a few seconds to speak with me) and told her Thank You. I wanted to say thanks, to everyone involved with the show, but felt some sort of need to actaully say it to her, because that whole thing made me proud to be involved with theatre.

I really want this to get picked up (Mainly for selfish reasons, such as being able to see it again, and for the possible cast recording) and done off-broadway (as it would never, ever, ever work on broadway).

Apparently no on in the audience tonight has ever been to seattle cause I was the only one to laugh at the jokes about the weather in seattle (being from Portland I know what it's like).
when ducks grow thumbs then maybe my opinion will change.

re: Feeling Electric

I saw this show on Saturday and all I can say is....it's electric!!! I just Loved,Loved,Loved this show !!! They had me at the 1st note. What a cast !!! I fell in love with Amy Spanger all over again. Loved her as Bianca/Lois in Kiss Me Kate..but she really blew me away with her performance in this show. She is amazing !!! When this show moves (not a doubt it my mind)..they must not change one cast member or musical number !!! I haven't felt this way about a musical in a very long time. This show was like going to an amusement park and getting on your favorite roller coaster and never wanting the ride to end.

re: Feeling Electric

I just saw it this afternoon, and I loved it. I think the score is brilliant, though the show is waaay too long, a fault had because it's almost all sung through. Like, someone just can't say "okay, I'm leaving," they have to sing a whole song about it. There's something very powerful in that notion, but it's not really very time-efficient. Overall, I thought it was fabulous, even though it's a bit depressing. Not everything is happy, and that's totally okay. I really, really hope this goes somewhere. It's excellent material, with none-too-few surprising plot twists.

The. Cast. Is. Amazing. All of them -- incredible vocals, great acting, everything I'm sure you all already knew. Nice to be able to see Amy Spanger on stage finally knowing who she was, and she absolutely blew me away, even though she wasn't totally off-book yet. That didn't matter much, since you could hardly tell. Annaleigh Ashford, who plays the daughter -- whoa. What a voice.... and she's like fresh out of college. Incredible. Joe Cassidy actually sounds a bit like Norbert, which at first is a teeny bit disconcerting, but he was great, and very believable in a part that could probably, if in the wrong hands, seem cheesy. Not *too* much to say about Benjamin (I'm too lazy to look up his last name) who played the son; it's probably the least complex of the roles, as it just fades in and out (don't want to post spoilers), but he was fine. And most certainly not least, Anthony Rapp -- thusfar I've only seen him SING live, but I've never seen him in a show. This was a really special first; he was brilliaaant. Just amazing, 'nuff said. re: Feeling Electric

re: Feeling Electric

Just saw the last performance of Feeling Electric tonight. I loved it. Thought it was very powerful, and though a little long, that didn't bother me one bit. The whole cast was amazing. There were only 40 minutes in the whole show that I wasn't crying. I really enjoyed it.

re: Feeling Electric

I was there tonight w/ Kerrie and I agree it was amazing!! Very creative and original, loved the score, even a moment where I kinda jumped in shock and dropped my mouth and covered it. Very very moving and I like that it's not a cheesy, happy story, fits very well in the times. I found myself immediately wishing I could buy a cast recording.

And this has been said, but the cast...FANTASTIC. I love Amy on the TTB Cast Recording but in viewing the show felt she lacked the stage presence of the other two--not at all true in this, she was just magnificent. A great voice and acting and just totally pulls the audience in.

Joe...I love Joe. I've chatted w/ him before at DRS(that show's my current obsession) and I saw him go on once as Freddy but he was just fantastic here. I heard in his performance as Freddy a great voice but he really let it out tonight. And again great acting, a few moments where he took center stage especially moved me.

Annaleigh was great too, girl's got some voice. I also was surprised she was fresh out of college, she actually looked really famililar.

Benjamin was...well gorgeous...(sorry) but he reached some amazing high notes...told him after I don't know how he did it and he said neither did he. Had to back and forth between characters, did a good job there, but again really great voice.

And finally Anthony...wow, I cried as soon as he sang his first note. Soo great to finally see him in a show. Great voice, great performance lots of feeling. And it made me think he just might have missed his calling. While no one can deny how amazing he is as Mark, seeing him having rock star "spasms" made me realize that I think deep down...he was meant to play Roger. re: Feeling Electric

Anywayz, so glad I got to see it, actually was #1 on the waiting list tonight but someone who was getting tickets said they had an extra so I bought it from them, soo happy. Really moving show, definitely got to me and made me think.
