"A new production of Simon Gray's Butley, with Nathan Lane in the title role, will reach Broadway's Booth Theatre on Oct. 5."

Isn't there such a thing as being too gay?

Um, no. And didn't Nathan already do this?

PEACE.

Lane received across the board raves when he did Butley at Hartford Stage a year or two ago.

I don't think that Lane seems particularly well-cast in this role.

But given that Butley is bisexual (and, to my mind, primarily gay), I wouldn't say that he's too gay for this one. (Despite Pinter's having said something to the effect that Butley is just mentally bisexual but doesn't really have sex with men. That's absurd.)

It was at the Huntington Theater in Boston, and he was terrific. He gave a smart, pained, sarcastic, understated performance that showed many layers. BTW, Alan Bates' son played his lover, so I'm sure daddy would approve.

Sounds interesting. Nathan Lane must love to work. He doesn't take any time off.

I don't find Nathan Lane all that "gay". I find him to be an incredible talent and am sure he'll do a lovely job.

Unfortunately, lovely isn't a characteristic of the character re: Alan Bates Must Be Rolling Over in his Grave

Nathan Lane loves to work - why be unemployed if you have projects thrown at your feet?
