Sorkin's FARNSWORTH INVENTION to Open on Broadway in November

"'The West Wing' creator/writer Aaron Sorkin will make his return to Broadway this fall with his first play in almost two decades, The Farnsworth Invention, Playbill.com has learned.

A casting notice lists Dodger Theatricals as the producer of the forthcoming production, to be directed by Des McAnuff. The posting lists October 15 as the tentative date of the first preview performance with a November 18 opening.

The Farnsworth Invention concerns the battle for the patent for the invention of the television set. The race pitted a young genius, Philo T. Farnsworth, who came up with the idea as a high school student, against David Sarnoff, the head of the Radio Corporation of America (RCA)." Updated On: 6/21/07 at 09:17 PM

This will be interesting. I liked AFGM & I'm also a big West Wing fan, but Studio 60 was a bit of a disappointment... Let's hope Aaron can pull it off again! I'm sure he will.

Nothing wrong with that, they need to sell tickets, just sad that Broadway has to do that to sell a (?good?) play, or any show for that matter.

That's clearly what's going to happen, & Julian I do agree - it's a sorry state of affairs. But let's face it, the West Wing was a great show & who can blame the producers if that's what they choose to do?

I know that this was just announced but it really isn't *new* news. It has been known since the Playhouse run that this show is going to Broadway and that Steven Spielberg has the rights to it and plans to make it into a film.

I saw the show in San Diego last spring...Des came up before the show and explained to the audience that the cast has been working hard on the show (it was a page to stage production) and not to fret if there were some fluffed lines. The show was impressive.

The tempo was quick and the story well told. Alot of information about the birth of television and the negative aspects of big business. Ralph Nadar should endorse the play soon. It should do well, the direction was top notch.

My guess is that this show will do very well at the TONYS. I don't know the other plays opening next season but I feel very confident saying this show should get a bunch of nominations. For wins I would say Best Play (MAYBE) Best Director and Stephen Lang for whatever category he will be in.
