Daniel does Sheffield

I've been wondering what Daniel Evans (who caressed all my senses in Candide, Merrily and Sunday) was intending to do next:

He's only becoming artistic director of my local producing theatre. If I thought the loss of Sam West was careless I'm over my disappointment now.

OK. I've come down to earth with a bump: I've realised one of my other favourite directors probably applied for this and, despite having more relevant experience than Daniel, presumably didn't get it.

So I'll be monitoring Daniel's progress with my usual objectivity.

It is rumoured that during his first season he will be directing himself as Bobby in a production of Company but nothing is official just yet.

Scripps - he's definitely not directing himself in Bobby in the opening season - Antony Sher is starring in Ibsen's 'Enemy of the People' (which Evans is directing). The new programme is out now and it's quite a mixture of things.

Tudor Square does look a right mess at the moment, though. I hope it's done in time for the big relaunch.

OK - I was told during 2010 and assumed this meant the opening season.
