Why was the 1992 GUYS AND DOLLS so damn good?

This thread has made me think about what makes a Broadway show good and, conversely, what makes one bad. I guess everything aligned themselves properly for this production of GUYS AND DOLLS and it all worked out fine. In a show like WOMEN THE VERGE... all the pieces seemed to be there but nothing really fit. On paper, both shows looked sensational, but with G&D, the theater gods seemed to be more pleased and brought together the right chemistry and creativity.

Go figure....

Dollypop, I think that's very true of almost any artistic collaboration. Great art sort of happens due to some divine chemistry. Even if the same people are back together, the same magic might not strike. I think the question of, "Well, what made this so great?" is always hard to answer because if they had waited two months or come in a different year, the show could have been a miserable flop.

Some people paint, some people sew, I meddle.
