The Effect (Warning)

There is a scene early in this play where blood is drawn (it's in a medical setting). At last nights performance, a young man in the rear of the theater fainted at the sight and the cast had to leave the stage for about 15 minutes while he was attended to. (This show appears to be a hit with doctors fortunately). If you are squeamish, you might want to avoid it.

How was the play?

It looks very realistic. I can't imagine the actors doing it for real every night but could have fooled me.

I enjoyed the play. I thought it was a worthy successor to The Flick which was my fave show last year. It's talky and ran 2 1/2 hours with the break and intermission. But I found the issues involving and it only dragged a bit at the end. The actor who played the sleazy clinic owner was outstanding. The main female doctor was cast a bit against type but was good. The guy started out annoying but grew on you as the character should also. Susannah Flood as the girl seemed like she could be grating to some people but it worked for me here. She also doesn't have a problem with exposing her breasts which was appreciated. There is a lengthy sex scene performed mainly behind a screen with closeups of the action projected on the screen- female topless nudity only. It was like watching HBO. It would be fine for mature 17 yos but they may get bored. I sat up front on the far right side, the actors had a lengthy scene off stage right there. You might consider that when buying your ticket. I got mine through TDF and was put there.
