Posted: 10/8/03 at 5:03pmShe really has an incredible voice. I saw her perform in Broadway In Bryant Park. But red hair? I guess that's sexy, but she had plenty of sex appeal with her own hair. I think they should have definitely kept it.

Duane:
The very fact that you referred to Fastrada as the "Chita" is frightening since that's the one that was preserved on the horrendous video version of the production with William Katt.
While Chita was smashing in it, I have to give credit to Leland Palmer who created the role, and later in role, the girl who felt "nothing", Priscilla Lopez.
I thin Sara is amazingly talented - a talent that was absolutely lost in Pippin at the Paper Mill. One of the worst theatrical experiences I have ever endured. Not Sara. The production, which clearly suffered from an indentity crisis. And a leading man who couldn't play naive and confused about life if he tried.

Rebecca Luker and Sara Gettelfinger IMHO are both better than the original performers in these roles. I saw the originals twice and the new ones at yesterday's matinee.
Luker is a more flesh and blood actor than Benanti, who was stiff in the role acting and singing (though her voice is lovely), Luker was the best on stage at acting and singing smoothly in one motion--if that makes sense. And her voice is spectacular.
Gettelfinger, bravo! She sings and acts the role with great gusto and fearlessness. She sings more on key than Krakowski and doesn't do all those annoying squeals that K. did.
Also, the new little Guido is better than the original matinee lead. He's very outgoing and confident, sings well, and has fun.
John Stamos OTOH is NOT up to the role. His singing was weak and anticlimactic. Often offkey. Very disappointing. And what's with his shoving MSM in their big fight scene? Very different interpretation with all sorts of new undertones. Adultery yes, abusive, I don't think it's supposed to be.
Eartha Kitt is more French, but very flat in her audience interaction. Also disappointing.
It was nice finally to see Marni Nixon's face. ![]()

Posted: 10/13/03 at 7:07pmI agree with HRH on everything you said. While I do like Krakowski, she's a very *pitchy* singer. I think her performance in Nine falls under the "overrated" category. And before anyone wants to "remind" me that she won a Tony for it, well, we all know there's no science to what the voters do. As for Benanti, I've made no bones about how completely boring I find her in everything. Of course Luker shines FAR more brightly. Good for both of the new ladies of Nine.
