When it comes to the capacity of the auditorium, the biggest Broadway theatres are
* GERSHWIN (1809 seats)
* HILTON (1807 seats)
* NEW AMSTERDAM (1801 seats)
* BROADWAY (1761 seats)
* PALACE (1706 seats)
* ST. JAMES (1706 seats, same as Palace)
* MINSKOFF (1691 seats)
* MAJESTIC (1607 seats)
These figures were found at Playbill.com.

wouldnt it be hard to pin down stage area because any given show could make adjustments to the stage (which is often why seats are removed)?

Posted: 5/18/05 at 6:38pmWell I saw Mamma Mia and thought the theater was beautiful. And then i saw Phantom and thought that theater was pretty big too, but not as nice as the Wintergarden. I like how the Wintergarden felt sorta intiminte, but not overly intimite. How big is the Walter-Kerr? I mean I know it houses Doubt, but didnt Urinetown play there as well? I'm alwasy surprised at the versitility (sp?) of some of the these theaters. The fact that they can hold musicals and still hold a good size for a regular play.

A lot of posts are about seating capacities but the original post asked:
"...does anyone know which one has the biggest stage area?"
When it comes to stage area, I still think it's The Hilton.
