And if you are going for a more "sleepaway camp" feel:

Where do you live? If you are Canadian (like me!) there is The National Music Camp of Canada. It is a week long camp that has programs for instrumental music and musical theatre. I take the MT course. For the past two years we have done "Cabaret" shows that are based around a theme, using songs from three different musicals. This year the theme is "Loveable Losers," with songs from Hair, Little Shop of Horrors, and Sweet Charity. It's a great program, so check out the site!

Posted: 7/19/05 at 9:27pmIt depends on when your show is. If it's at the beginning, you concentrate more on technique. If you're close to the end, you do more on actual performance.

Posted: 7/19/05 at 9:34pmIf you are younger or aren't as experienced, Blue Lake is good. In my home town it was sort of viewed as a preview for Interlochen. Of course, most of us went for music, and a couple went for dance. I do know a guy who went to Interlochen for theatre the summer before his senior year, and ended up staying on for his senior year. I also know a couple of girls who went to Northwestern's program, and was really happy with it. Oh, and I was 12 and going into 8th grade the first time I went to a fine arts camp.

I'm going to second Mizzie's NMC recommendation. I've been going to this camp forever, as a camper and now as staff, and it's definitely the perfect ending for the summer.
Another overnight arts camp in Ontario is Centauri. It's in Welland or Wellandport. On the Niagra escarpment. It attracts tons of international campers. I went to the camp for dance one year and for musical theatre the next. It's a camp with the most welcoming, encouraging atmosphere I've ever found in any kind of arts setting. No one is competing to be the best...everyone is there to learn and, because of that, it actually happens. They run 4 two-week sessions over the course fo the summer and I think they fill pretty quickly. It's a relatively small camp, which is another really nice thing. I could go on and on...but if this has actually peaked your interest, let me know and I'd be happy to provide you with more information.
