I saw this show today, it was hilarous and the cast did an AWESOME job.
It was definetly a great show and I'm so glad I was able to go to it. The characters were each more developed, and the story ended up trying to send more of a noticeable message. Except that's not exactly why I liked the show...
It just had a lot of funny stuff and was a fun show with some meaning to it also.
I'm not sure who here has seen the movie or the show (it was opened the 13th and was also playing yesterday too) yet, but whoever has seen the show, what were ya thoughts on it? Just starting up a thread for some opinions, although I don't think many maybe on these boards saw it tho... but who knows.
Anyway, I dunno if it'll ever go any further than this new york musical festival, but I hope it does just because it was definetly worth the watch.
And it stayed pretty true to the movie also, there were lots of parts I was remembering and the stuff they added along the way was great.
Just awesome job to everyone who was a part of the show, whether it be cast, director, writer, etc... great job!
(posted on off topic but a lil more appropriate here i think, plus only got 1 response there)
Kelly did a great job at Graham, and Rock (John) was hilarious. He reminded me a lot of Napolean Dynamite, lol.
Natalie... what part did she play? Whatever she played, she most likely did a good job because I really enjoyed the entire cast.
From Megan to the cheerleaders who were hiarlious inbetween all the scenes, I loved this one thing they did that was gangsta lol. They all did a great job, everyone.
well, hopefully it'll show sometime in the future maybe... and maybe even with the same cast because they were great. Since it sucks that so many people won't get the chance to see it.
And that's awesome ya seein it tonight, tell me watcha think.
Blah, I've tried twive writing reviews in the past 5-10 minutes and they suck so I give up. I'm honestly even drawing blanks on how the songs go... if only I could see it again or get some recording, they were great songs.
Many upbeat fast paces songs were just so funny and fun, and very sometimes Hairsprayish in a way. The ballads were touching and many were more general (rather than directed straight towards gays or something) so more people could relate. The lines throughout were hilarious and comments made.
The lyrics were good, although some didn't flow very well, in a song called "one step at a time" and in some others there would be too many syllables in too little time and were said too fast, so it was weird. That was one thing I didn't like...
I would write a review if I were good at really depicting songs to get you a great sense of them and if i could remember them better, but I just can't.
I will say that the show left an image tho, just like one overall feeling... it was just fun and funny and a great time, as well as meaningful too. It left like a whole impression and me wanting to just hear it again and get to know the songs because I enjoyed while I was there. It's just, I wasn't concenered about remembering them, but about the story and the jokes and the next song coming up. I didn't have time to try to get them in my memory.
So I'l leave it bway to write a good review on the show and the songs... sorry I'm even gonna look foward to the review since it'll make me remember a bit more lol, cuz I'm drawin blanks on specific songs and what they sound like right now.
It's a fantastic musical--bound to go Off or even Broadway. This is a workshop, and I would say that the writing is in great shape--sure there are things that will want tightening and polishing, etc. but that is part of the process.
I thought the cast was great--especially John Hill. He killed me and NJJ can SANG. Everyone was really fun. Kevin-Anthony tore it up.
I heard RuPaul was there tonite--and seemed to love it.
Not just RuPaul, but a couple of other people connected to the movie as well. I was sat in the row behind them and they all seemed to be having a blast. I really really enjoyed the show too, even got a little tearful in the finale. The cast are joyous and I hope when it moves on to its next stage that it retains all of them.
Nothing precious, plain to see, don't make a fuss over me. Not loud, not soft, but somewhere inbetween. Say sorry, just let it be the word you mean.
I saw it tonight and thought it was brilliant. The cast were all great (natalie joy johnson rotates my tires) and the songs were fun and fit really well. I alos loved the development of Kim and Jared who were sadly neglected in the movie. and the Finale was so bizarre and amazing at the same time that there are not words.
when ducks grow thumbs then maybe my opinion will change.
I really enjoyed the show as well and think it has amazing potential. I think the score was at its best in the ballads and some of the uptempo numbers, specifically "one step at a time" and the one with the morgan-gordons and jarret, etc. However I think the show was as solid as lots of things currently on or off-broadway. I think the show might actually benefit from a broadway budget as the cast is large and many of the scenes could benefit from a set. I have to say for someone so familiar with the movie, I was surprised I could enjoy the show as much as I did. They actually added a lot of depth to some of the characters.
P.S. Did anyone else find John Hill absolutly and utterly obnoxious. He REALLY irritated me.
I saw this on Saturday. I have so much fun when I'm watching a show and you can tell the cast is having a good time with it. It was just a lot of fun with a very talented cast. So grab your pom-poms and go have fun !!!

Damn. Really wanted to see this but it sold out in something like 10 minutes. Can anyone who still has a playbill post the songlist? I'm really curious. The movie is just hysterical tho.
I'll be happy to post a songlist tonight, I stupidly took my program out when I got home last night and, while I remember the majority of the songs, I don't want to get the running order off. I'll also post as in-depth a review as I can shortly.

YOu rock, Poppy. Aside from RuPaul in the audience, the original Joel (I'm blanking on his name) was in the audience, as was the original writer/director, Jamie Babbitt. They were raving about the show at intermission (I'm a snoop, so I listened in).
OMG I LOVEDDDDDDDDDDDD this show it was soooooooo good!!! The entire cast did such a great job. I really wanna see it again but it's sold out. There could be a cancellation line or something so we shall see. Well, everyone pretty much covered how amazing the show was!!! I loved the music to!! And John Hill was hilarious. That outfit he had on OMG I was laughing so hard the second he came out in those shorts and wifebeater!!! Enrico's solo was amazing but of course that was no suprise since he's such a talented guy. But, the entire cast did an amazing job as well. So, for those of you that have seen it does anybody else think that the guy that plays Joel looks like Mr. Bean ? hehe... Just a thought!! I keep thinking to myself "he looks like somebody famous" and it didn't hit me till after the show "Mr. Bean" my friend totally agreed with me to lol!!
I think the Times has reviewed a couple of NYMF shows (and I know they destroyed a few Fringe ones). This is something close to a rave for Cheerleader.
