Unfortunately, Rusty probably didn't "see" what was happening, either. We have a way of being able to overlook that which we aren't ready or able to deal with. I'm not exonerating him, but I doubt that he ever had any notion that whe might kill all of the children. I'm guessing that it probably came as a surprise to Andrea, too.
The reason that the "pitying" comment doesn't bother me is because he truly suffered a horrible loss, too, even if he contributed to the situation that caused it.

I don't think it's fair (although I've been known to do it myself, too) to judge the televised actions of someone whose life has been ripped apart. Many people would find it difficult to know how to function with the cameras all pointed on you. And knowing that everyone has an opinion about what kind of person you are. And we ALL know what editing can do a story.
Maybe he is a plastic creep who doesn't care at all. But on the other hand, maybe he's a guy...not the brightest lightbulb...who listened to so many people while trying to do the right thing that things got more horribly screwed up than if he had just listened to his own instincts.
Who can say. All I know is that none of us *really* have enough information to pass judgement. DP, from reading many of your posts, many would have the feeling that you really hate children. But I suspect that's not accurate...at least I hope it's not, given that you chose to make teaching them your life's work, and even opened your home to one or two.
