A friend of mine saw a test screening of the movie with the infamous Cock Shot still in it and said he was hung decently enough, but he was hardly the John Holmes they were making him out to be. It was all obviously a huge publicity stunt for the movie.
It finally opened in the UK last week and I went in with apprehensions. I adored the book so much that I wasn't sure I would want to see it on screen. Well, I really liked it. The performances were all top notch and the adaptation was fine too, although it was greatly compressed and streamlined and had eliminated a fairly key character. I REALLY felt for Bobby, that everyone he loved eventually left him. The end, with him watching the AIDS stricken Johnathan walk into the house was very moving.
