I just saw this on netflix--absolutely terrific! Not the masterpiece that is All About Eve, but the dialogue is on par, as are some of the performances: Kirk Douglas is outstanding as perhaps the world's first metrosexual and he looks good enough to eat, Ann Sothern runs circles around Linda Darnell and Jeanne Crain, and of course, Thelma Ritter, Thelma Ritter, Thelma Ritter. And if I'm not mistaken, the actress who plays Linda's mother is also Patrick's nanny in Auntie Mame.

Am I right Glebb?

Did you ever see the tv remake with Michele Lee and Stephanie Zimbalist?

It is ridiculous to set a detective story in New York City. New York City is itself a detective story... AGATHA CHRISTIE, Life magazine, May 14, 1956

No, Kringas! Who was the third wife? Please let it be Victoria Principal!

I was really interested in it, considering Joe Mankiewicz won back-to-back Oscars--I can see why: the editing, cross-cutting and structure are first-rate and the dialogue is snappy to say the least. And isn't it always interesting to see Thelma put all those little touches on a character? She SEEMS to always be playing the same role, but she can steal focus just by making and counting the canapes in Ann's kitchen--I was reminded of the Hattie McDaniel role in Alice Adams...two superior talents milking a bit role for all it's worth.
