Posted: 1/6/05 at 8:26pmI tried out for debate today with the issue-Should we add another period of recess to the school day? My school day is from 8:00-4:30 and I took the negative. One teacher judged and the other, the person who leads it, watched and asked me questions. I got a 4/4 in one of teh categories and the teacher who judged told me that I did really well. I hope I made it! There are only 8 spots and a lot of people tried out or are trying out tomorrow. Any advice if I do make it for real debates? The real debate question is Should extreme measures be implemented on foreign prisoners?

My advice for you is to be sure your facts are straight, and don't ever speak with fallacies. Nothing is worse in debate and I've seen many people lose rounds because of this. Also, if you do add opinion, be sure that you have developed an opinion from fact. Pretty much all debate has a lot to do with that-fact.
