How would dicussing circumcision contribute to your sense of spirituality?
Guilt:
Why do you hate me? I've done nothing but love you your whole life but if that's how you want to treat me, than fine. No, no. You don't have to apologize. You've said how you feel. It's fine.
Umm, how about:
Why should we keep Shabbes? What benefits are there to it?
Maybe a discussion of women's role in Judaism/the Torah. There are a lot of misconceptions.
Why do kids with religion do better in school/in life? (There was a study done about this.)
What do you do if you consider yourself Jewish but don't know if you really believe in G-D?
Not sure if these are what you are looking for...
Those are interesting topics. I'm not Jewish, but I'd want to read discussions on those.

Thanks Elphie. Last week we had a discussion on Shabbos. I like the last last one you mentioned about being Jewish and whether or not you believe in G-d.

Type A....if you have AOL you can come to this chat. You dont even have to be Jewish.
When do they take place? I'm making dinner right now but I'd love to read what people have to say. Heck, there should be an informal discussion on here too about these topics!
as a "non-practing" Jew (ie Mom and Dad moved us West as soon as the grandparents died when I was very young) I might find this interesting.
However let me be clear on one thing. I do NOT miss my foreskin!

Type A: This isnt a message board. It is a live chat that meets every Wednesday at 9pm in Jewish Life chat room on AOL.
Oh I see. Okay. Perhaps I'll drop by tomorrow then. I'm not familiar with finding AIM chat groups, but I'll see if I can find it.
I also like the last question because it pertains to me. I am Jewish and I love being Jewish, but I don't know if I really believe in G-D. I WANT to believe, but it's not the same thing.
More possibilities:
Why do you consider yourself Jewish? Is it more than just genes?
How does being Jewish give you a different perspective on things?
Is Judaism simply a way of life, or is it something more/less?
Is marrying a convert the same as marrying a "born-Jew?"

Elphie...Again, thanks for your help!
I have a master's degree in Jewish education and work full time at a synagogue. IM me (liotte) if you want/need more ideas.
No problem! This is fun!

-Which Jewish traditions/holidays/customs do you hold most dear and why?
-What kinds of things do you associate with Judaism (or Israel)? [This would be an interesting question for non-Jews to answer... I asked my friend this and her responses were matzah balls, tuna, oy vey and Israel.]
-Is it difficult for you to live Jewishly in today's society? Why or why not?
This sounds like a great chat... too bad I have "Hebrew High" (aka "let's make the high schoolers sit around and let's try to teach them something, but wait, we don't know anything!" the program is very weak) But maybe over spring break...
bwayballerina~ I go to something like that, too. It is called Midrasha and it is on Sundays. The 8-10th grade program isn't great, but the 11-12th grade program is pretty good this year. My Rabbi teaches a class and we are reading Genesis and he gives us poems and shorts stories and stuff to read, and on the "off" weeks, there is a discussion/class group with college students and they bring in Jewish people from the community, like newspaper reporters and such. It is pretty interesting.
Here is another one:
What/when was the time you felt most proud of being Jewish?
So, if I want to join this chat tomorrow, what do I do? Do I just go to aol and type in Jewish chat or whatever? Is that how I do it?

I would do a chat on Jewish Men I Have Known, but that would have to be Adult Only.
Well; if it is adult only can we have the chat now?
