Richard Fleischer; An Underrated Director

Richard Fleischer is a director who's suprisingly not that well known considering the movies he's directed. (The Narrow Margin, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, The Vikings, Barabbas, Fantastic Voyage, Doctor Doolittle, The Boston Strangler, Tora! Tora! Tora!, See No Evil, Soylent Green, Mandingo, Conan the Destroyer). He's nearing 90 now. Hopefully he will be recognized by the Academy soon.

"The gods who nurse this universe think little of mortals' cares. They sit in crowds on exclusive clouds and laugh at our love affairs. I might have had a real romance if they'd given me a chance. I loved him, but he didn't love me. I wanted him, but he didn't want me. Then the gods had a spree and indulged in another whim. Now he loves me, but I don't love him." - Cole Porter

The Vikings is one of my fave adventure films.

A Mandingo ate my baby!

Seriously, though, even though he has directed a lot of films, I don't think too many are considered all that great. Fun, perhaps. Campy? Definitely. But are you asking for a lifetime achievement?

PEACE.

I think a lot of them are pretty solid films. He's been a part of the business forever, why not give him some recognition?

MANDINGO and DR. DOOLITTLE are great movies? WHAT are you people smokin'?

"Impossible is just a big word thrown around by small men who find it easier to live in the world they've been given than to explore the power they have to change it. Impossible is not a fact. It's an opinion. Impossible is not a declaration. It's a dare. Impossible is potential. Impossible is temporary. Impossible is nothing.” ~ Muhammad Ali

Who said they were?

People are so quick to jump on people about anything on these boards.

I've seen some of the movies you list here, and other's you haven't. There's only two Fleischer movies that I've enjoyed, though:

Narrow Margin (52)
Child of Divorce (40's)

The Divorce movie has a great little actress in it. I can't think of her name now, but the movie was done to "expose" the damage done to children when a home breaks up. She did a fantastic job, and I believe she was around 10 at the time.
