typecasting?

So if you were to look at me, you'd think "girl-next-door", and if you were to cast me in Crazy for You, you'd think more along the lines of Polly.
Now. Since I went to university I have played Lulu in Cabaret (a slut), Doris Lavine in God (a slut) and Lois Lane in Kiss Me Kate (a slut).
I had a callback for Crazy for You tonight. Since the Polly had already been cast, I figured it was just for a follies girl.
Wrong, oh so wrong.
I got there, and it turns out I was called back for Irene- the super b1tchslut. I don't know what's happened to the sweet girl-next-door Dorothy/Liesel but apparently she went to university and turned into a HUSSY!
Right Dame?
Do any of you have serious casting patterns? Hehe I'd hate to think this is typecasting!

re: typecasting?

but JID -- sluts are so much more fun to play! Of course these are stretches from the real you (remember, you ARE my girlfriend who loves in Canada)...have a blast babe!

Lois Lane is NOT a sl-never mind.

re: typecasting?

They see the slutty potential in the girl-next-door.

And a girl who loves in Canada (now is this all of Canada?) has got to be a slut... :)

Break a leg with the role, JID! Some day, you'll get to be non-slutty. But will you have as much fun?

re: typecasting?

oh I'm not complaining! I LOVE playing those parts, they're so much more fun!
And the show hasn't been cast yet, just had the callback tonight. I'll keep you all posted! (Although, the other girl who was called back for Irene doesn't dance. I do. Therefore, she'll probably end up as the non-dancing Irene and I'll probably end up a follies girl).
Which brings something else up.....
DANCERS: do you find this happens to you ALL THE TIME? You can't land non-dancing principles because they need you to dance in the chorus?!? Sometimes I think I should just go and pretend I can't dance. Oi!

And Slaton..... if his checks I fear, mean that sex is here to stay!

re: typecasting?

My first play was in Kindergarten and I played an old woman who churned butter in a boot. Other roles I had were the Mother Superior in Sound of Music, Mrs. Soames in Our Town, Vera Charles in Mame, Aunt Eller in Oklahoma . I was younger then and always played old women. I would love to play a slut!

re: typecasting?

Good luck with that JID!!

I always always always get typecasted as the ingenue, and I can see how that would get annoying. I've always wanted to play a bitchslut---the closest I came was Ariel in Footloose.

I hope you get it!

re: typecasting?

The original staging had Irene doing some pretty complicated moves during NAUGHTY BABY.
