What a bunch of Capitol Hill super divas. To the victor goes the spoils!

"are embracing the idea that comprehensive health care legislation should include a requirement that every American carry insurance."

Be very afraid. When the government starts "requiring" citizens to do things, you've lost your freedom.

By Goth's standards, I lost my freedom the day I turned 18 and I had to register for Selective Service.

"By Goth's standards, I lost my freedom the day I turned 18 and I had to register for Selective Service."

Let's see, who reinstated Selective Service. Think ...think ... think. Oh yes, it was Jimmy Carter, the worst president ever. See a pattern here?

No, I don't see a pattern.

North Dakota's government wants to require women to carry all pregnancies to term. What democrat is to blame for that?

"North Dakota's government wants to require women to carry all pregnancies to term."

And a person still has 49 other states to live in.

And apparently a woman in North Dakota should have less dominion over her body than a woman in New York. Great reasoning there.

Poor, poor analogy.

Actually, no it isnt. As blueroses said - a woman shouldn't have less dominion over her body in one state or the next but you seem to think that the woman at least has the option to move. I'm saying that if she can move to another state, she can move out of the country.

If you don't like America's politics, you can make the same move. There are ALWAYS options. You might not like the options, but there are always options. It's called free will. Just be ready to be accountable for your actions whether it's legally or spiritually...

It's not a good analogy because we as Americans don't have the freedom to move to another country.

However, we do have the freedom to move in or out of states that have policies that we don't agree with. People do it all the time when they move from a higher tax state to a lower tax state.

Since when...do Americans not have the freedom to move to another country? People do it all the time.

Jesus P. Christ III !
Are there walls surrounding the United States of America with armed guards preventing Americans from leaving the country? Americans can leave the USA anytime they want, unless they are convicts or something similar. Whether or not they are accepted as residents, immigrants or citizens in another country is another issue that depends on the rights and freedoms of that country and not America.

"Be very afraid. When the government starts "requiring" citizens to do things, you've lost your freedom.

One doesn't have to pay taxes in America? You don't need a driver's license to drive or Social Security number to get a job? Children are not required to go to school, it's their option? Birth Certificates are optional? You're not required to be a certain age before purchasing liquor? Paying for goods at stores is optional? It doesn't matter which side of the road you drive on, it's only a suggestion?

And of course, any health care reform is a long long way from being a done deal. You'd think Republicans would get EXHAUSTED from freaking out over what might, possibly, someday happen.

Oh yes, it was Jimmy Carter, the worst president ever.

Sorry. It's my patriotic duty to inform you that you lost the right to say that during the last eight years.

You may, if you wish, refer to him as "Jimmy Carter, the third-worst president ever," with the addition of Herbert Hoover.

Thanks in advance for your compliance.

and who is gonna head this? why nancy-ann deparle who currently sits on the boards of three companies who will be directly affected by the legislation.

now how much do these companies stand to make from the federal government? i seem to recall some people railing about a similar situation just a few years ago. someone stepping down from a company which soon saw outrageous profits? in fact, i even remember the company name because it still gets tossed around: halliburton.
conflict of interest? what conflict of interest? it's the chicago way
