re: Advice for London Theatre -- what to see Sept 9-13?

Thanks for all the information about Michael Morpurgo! I bought the novel "War Horse" at the interval and am looking forward to reading it. I'm also interested in hearing everyone's opinion of the new version of the show after people have started seeing it -- one reason why I wish I had stage doored the show is because I have all these questions about the staging and no one to ask!

I don't know if Broadway theater-goers dress down or they simply wear the same clothes to the theater as they do walking around the street. I had heard that London audiences were a little dressier, so I brought a jacket with me to Zorro, which was the first show I saw, but no one else was wearing one and it was kind of hot (no air conditioning), so I didn't bring one to the rest of the shows. Then at War Horse, it seemed that most of the guys were wearing jackets and I felt a little underdressed not wearing one. It also seemed that at a lot of the other shows, other American tourists (who were not very dressed up) were sitting around me, while I think the War Horse audience didn't have as many tourists, which may be why it was dressier.

What is your sense of what most men wear to London theater? In the US, there is definitely a wide range, but I would say that a jacket is uncommon. There was an article in the New York Times a few years back in which the writer felt he had to explain why he was wearing a jacket and tie to a matinee of Hairspray.
"What was the name of that cheese that I like?" "you can't run away forever...but there's nothing wrong with getting a good head start" "well I hope and I pray, that maybe someday, you'll walk in the room with my heart"
