i'm really glad that you already have a voice teacher, and it's also good that you're being trained classically. the classical technique will give you the background you need to maintain good vocal quality. just because your voice teacher says you should go into opera doesn't mean that's the absolute end-all for you; let him/her know that your passion is musical theatre, and see if he/she will let you sing classical-ish MT stuff (the older musicals are good for this).
it's great that you've taken small parts -- that's how you work your way up. i've been in 40 shows and only had 6 lead roles.....which means 34 ensemble roles. i've been in joseph...3 TIMES....blech. once as the leader of the children's chorus, once as lady potiphar, and once as the narrator.
definitely a HUGE part of acting is learning how to let go of inhibitions. once you learn to do that, the whole thing is a lot easier.
keep up with the voice lessons and acting....and try to fit in a ballet class if you have the time/money. it will really really really make a difference, trust me :)
