Beginners was great!

Caught "Beginners" this morning and really enjoyed it. I liked the out of sequence story telling and the way it made you guess what was a memory, what was happening in the present, etc. Not that it was confusing, but it mirrored how much of life can be a blur, especially when we continually are mixing past emotions and experiences with the present.

Going in I heard a lot of buzz about Plummer's performance, and though very good, I thought the movie belonged to Ewan McGregor. I've adored him since Moulin Rouge, but this made me look at him in a more serious light. Melanie Laurent, with whom he shares many of his scenes, is also captivating.

If you haven't had a chance yet this really is a great summer movie and shouldn't be missed.
Marie: Don't be in such a hurry about that pretty little chippy in Frisco. Tony: Eh, she's a no chip!

Beginners was great!

I saw this film on saturday and absolutley adored it. It was so sweet but also quite a sad film. I teared up. All the performances were terrific. Gotta love that dog as well. I really enjoyed the non-linear style of this film and the use of photos and art.

Also, everything was dealt with in a very realistic way, nothing felt too kitshy or cutesy. Christopher Plummer totally avoided any type of stero-type of the gay man. I would expect to see his name thrown around quite a bit during award season and deservedly so.
