Out of curiosity...how many people feel that the Kennedy Center's upcoming production of MAME, starring Christine Baranski, might be able to make the transfer to Broadway like ON GOLDEN POND did?

I know Herman's going to have something to do with this mounting and was wondering if, with the right cast, this might be able to make the transfer to NY. I don't know what Baranski's schedule is, I do know she's doing the "Adopted" pilot with Bernadette Peters and don't know if that's going to affect her ability to make the commitment. Would she even be enough of a name to sell the show on Broadway. I know, I hate asking if someone's a big enough name or not, but it matters a lot today. I guess it all depends on who they get for Vera.

Either way...just wondering how many people think this could make the jump or think that the Broadway revival is going to have it's own seperate production. I know that MAME is supposed to be Herman's next revival...so I'm guessing it all depends on how this production turns out.

It's totally dependent on the reviews. If the production gets raves, then there's a chance.

I know Herman's been dying to get a revival to Broadway for years. Some have suggested that Baranski lacks the sort of warmth that Mame should ideally have and that she might make for a better Vera. We shall see.

For me, Karen Ziemba would be the ideal Mame.

Interesting thought about her as Vera, a surefire but predictable choice. I think Baranski's got a larger than life quality that is well suited to Mame's eccentricity, and I think there's fire behind it that could well add the needed warmth. Anything Baranski does would sparkle.
