Where is the Gershwin stage door located at? I'm visiting NYC and I couldn't find it tonight. Will be watching Wicked again on Thursday night.
Thanks!

You have to cross over the big car throughway thingummy. It's not on the same side of that as the theatre itself. From memory, when you come out of the theatre, head to the right, and then left along that street.
It'd be much easier if I could just send you the image burned into my brain
By the way, when first going to a new place, I find it helps to get there a few minutes early and circle the block a bit so you know where to go beforehand :)

lfae,
I think I have an idea now. 51st street going towards 8th avenue. No wonder I couldn't find it tonight. I was looking for it after the show.
thanks!

I'm so glad that made sense! I was seriously sitting here, flailing my arms about, trying to figure out how best to explain "it's over there"
And of course I couldn't remember all the streets, lol.

Posted: 1/18/06 at 2:40pmCome out of the theatre and turn left. Walk out of the little parking lot thing and turn right. Walk down a few feet until you see the stage door. I joke you not, it has a little sparkly sign over it that says "Stage Door."

Posted: 1/18/06 at 3:46pmI wouldnt call it singing. I would call it screaching words at the top of your lungs, so that everyone around you goes deaf

Posted: 1/18/06 at 5:14pmI've never heard any singing and I go by the Wicked stagedoor all the time. The worst I've ever seen the stage door was during Idina's last few weeks. What a mob scene.

Posted: 1/18/06 at 5:19pmThe stage door during the Idina Years was awful. It's not bad now, though. Just don't expect Carol Kane or George Hearn to sign. Hearn may, if he's having a good day.

Posted: 1/18/06 at 5:36pmI asked a very nice usher right by the door, but it is a bit confusing I must say! I saw a matinee and the door was not a mob scene at all and no one was screaming or singing! I was shocked that Eden, Derrick, and Megan all came out, but no Carol, who by the way was SO cute! My sister didn't like that she wasn't able to sing her parts, which I didn't realize she was supossed to sing since I hadn't heard the soundtrack yet (I wanted a fresh ear lol) Anyway just go straight across the driveway for the parking garage to the far corner and you will see baracades!

Rue also spoke most of the lines. I felt, if I'm gonna see it done this way, at least Carole had a solid character down. She made some things work that normally I just brushed passed.

I made a really cheesy map for someone else a while ago for the stage door. If it helps, here you go (keep in mind that the parking lot is covered - I couldn't figure out how to show that).
The little red lines are you leaving the theatre heading to the stage door. :)

Posted: 1/18/06 at 5:56pmno problem. I kept it, thinking it just may come in handy again. It can be a confusing stage door cause it doesn't look like it is a part of the theatre, but it is.

Thank you for the directions. I found it tonight.
Eden was very nice. I got an autograph and if my camera didn't run out of batteries, I would've had a picture with her. Instead all I have is a crappy picture on my treo. Oh well...
