Posted: 3/21/07 at 6:18amSpiderwoman is one AMAZING Kander and Ebb score. I knew the score backwards and forwards before seeing the Broadway production. I think the show ultimately closed because it wasn't able to generate the interest by the tourist crowd. It's such a tough thing to do to create a show that can transcend cultural / language boundaries. Even with a bankable star in the the role of Aurora, I think Spiderwoman would have had difficulty staying open for a long period of time. The subject matter isn't going to be appealing to everyone and it's not a light/fun night of entertainment. I saw it twice with Chita and once with Vanessa. I, personally, preferred the "Chita" cast as a whole, but thought it was brilliant casting to bring Vanessa in and change it up with Stokes-Mitchell.
