There's nothing wrong with musicals being adapted from other mediums. I daresay most classic musicals were adapted from another source, be it a play, movie, or book.
What bugs me is when it looks like people see a source that's likely to make money, rather than a source that's begging to be musicalized. I'm not saying that's the case here, but this sudden spate of popular movie adaptations in production doesn't smell right to me.
As has been pointed out ad nauseum- we had a whole thread about it- lots of good musicals sound incredibly stupid when you just name their plots. Cannibal barbers? Singing cowboys? You get the idea. So I'll wait and see before I judge.
