Is the new musical "Light In The Piazza" based on the film of the same name that starred Yvette Mimieux?

Yes Marquise it is, they both are based on the novel by Elizabeth Spencer. It was filmed in 1961 by MGM and was released in 1962 with a cast headed by Olivia De Havilland, Yvette Mimieux, George Hamilton and Rossanno Brazzi. Updated On: 10/7/04 at 05:14 AM

What is going on here? Answering your own questions? Pretty funny. Some thoughts: Number one: can't wait to see this production of PIAZZA! Number two: "Stokes Rocks"! Number three: when is Brian Stokes coming back to Broadway?

Does anyone know if Celia is still connected with the show? I know she was trying to do Spelling Bee as well. Anyone know? And who's playing Fabrizio while I'm at it? They've had different guys at every performance!

Word. Word, indeed.

As far as I know, Celia Keenan Bolger--and I don't know much--is not doing the show in New York. Steven Pasquale was the original Fabrizio, but backed out to do the Denis Leary TV series. Recently, on Actorsequity.org there was a call for L.I.T.P. calling for a Clara, Fabrizio, and Fabrizio's brother. Ms. Keenan-Bolger is currently here in Seattle playing Emily in a production of "Our Town" with "Piazza" director Bartlett Sher. Victoria Clark (divine!) and Mark Harelik are still doing the show in NY.

Borstal, last I heard she was trying to do both Spelling Bee AND Piazza. You sure she's out?

Having seem Keenan-Bolger in the Goodman mounting all I can say is she would be foolish not to take it to New York. She is beautiful in this role and it would be a shame if you all missed her performance.

Honestly, I could not imagine the show WITHOUT Keenan-Bolger and Clark. Celia was utterly convincing and delivered a heartbreaking performance of a character we truly cared about. She was wonderful. Like Tonya in Caroline, Victoria is Tony-worthy in an unconventional show that she may not win simply because the show may not be commercial enough to draw the attention it deserves.

I could be wrong about Celia, like I said, I'm not TOTALLY in the know. Plan to see OUR TOWN, I'll let you know how she is.

Celia was also perfect in the female lead of "Can't Help Falling In Love" showcase performances...but won't be doing the show (now titled "All Shook Up") on Broadway.

Being a big follower of Adam Guettel's work as well as an acquaintance, I spoke to Adam about the show at dinner after John Bucchino's "It's Only Life" in August and he seemed pretty (using a phrase I have heard too much recently) "flip-floppy" about who was playing Clara. According to Adam - and I'm certainly not surprised at all - the part is very vocally taxing and it had been giving her some problems, considering she is a much stronger actress than singer (not to say she is weak vocally). It sounded to me like he was searching for someone else, but also that he would have a hard time finding an equally brilliant actress.
Pacific Overtures and Piazza will surely be the two highlights of the upcoming season for me!

But I won't live alone in a house of regret.

having seen the production so many times at the goodman, watching someone else take the role of clara to new york will be hard for me.

i really hope she takes the role to broadway, even if she only stays with it a few months. granted the show stays open a few months...

****ing broadway.
