RMS) Vous parlez certainement de The Land Of Sand.

For those that don't, a summary of this says that Richard M. Sherman is working on the stage musical of Mary Poppins and it is coming along pretty damn well.

"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

Well! Three years of high school French obviously did me no good at all! :)

Warning - makes only little bits of sense.

DTD) MARY POPPINS s?achemine also worms of new developments, on scene, in England. RMS) Beaucoup of excellent things at their exit are quite as excellent aujourd?hui. J?ai have much chance this year with my spectacle CHITTY CHITTY BANG BANG in London which is the greatest success of l?année and which is based on a film that we made 35 years ago! If l?on remakes the things well, while preserving their integrity, the magic can start again. Concerning MARY POPPINS, we are in the train d?y working and that seems rather good. It will be an association between the large English producer Cameron Macintosh and Disney. DTD) It is d?ailleurs amusing to think that the BOOK OF the JUNGLE has a song originally planned for MARY POPPINS. RMS) You speak certainly about The Land Of Sand. It was envisaged as an instrumental melody for a sequence in which Mary Poppins takes along the children in an imaginary voyage around the world. It arrive at the medium of the desert of the Sahara and c?est there qu?elle starts to sing it on this same melody. But the sequence was given up and there remained to us this hypnotic topic. C?est whereas we are known as that we could l?utiliser for Kaa, which we did by changing the words simply.

I really hope they cast Ruthie Henshall in the lead. I would take a trip to London to see that.

Ah, I understand about the Land Of Sand bit. The Book Of The Jungle is Disney's THE JUNGLE BOOK. In it, a snake named Kaa sings a song "Trust In Me." That song was originally written for Disney's MARY POPPINS. She would sing that song to get the children to fall asleep, then, the Land of Sand scene would happen, where in the children's dreams, Mary Poppins takes them around the world. When the children wake up, they tell their father about it, but he says that it was just a dream. This was cut from the film for whatever reason.

In that interview, I believe they were asking if the song would be included.

I do love Ruthie too! lol I saw her at the Broadway flea market last year and I was gonna go say hi, but my feet wouldn't move. LOL Same thing happened when I saw Tony Bennett at Liza's Christmas Concert. It's rare, but it sometimes happens to me.

Word is that Jo Riding, recently in the West End as Eliza Dolittle, has gotten the role of the magical nanny.

I've always thought a great onstage Bert would be Tommy Tune. Or he'd be a good lead for a Yank version of CHITTY CHITTY. Just don't let him direct it; those shows only fit his performing style. He already followed Dick in BIRDIE (pun intended).
