Oklahoma City University (advice)

Ok, here's my delimma:
I've been accepted into the school,the musical theatre program, and the theatre program (you are considered for both)there. I was not made a scholarship offer for the musical theatre program but was made a substantial offer from the theatre school that would basically make student loans go away.they are separate programs and i have to choose which one. If anyone has any information/opinions on the theatre/musical theatre schools please post it here. I'm not planning on this thread to make or break my decision, rather just using it as a tool to gather info from other students who know about OCU. Thanks!

I was faced with the same Problem. If you go With the Bm then You will be in the music stuff. If you go with the theater you have to audition for everthing and you have to take voice lessions for at least 3 semesters and you can be in choir and you also have to take dance! If its musical theater you want which is what I want Go with the one with the scolorship and add stuff because that way you will have money and won't have to worry about the loans and you will basically have a musical theater degree. Do you under stand what I'm saying? If you don't just Pvt message me! I'm gonna be a Freshmen there too next year anyway and If i can't find the answer I'll ask some of my friends who are going there now!

Hey, I'm also going to be a freshman there next year. To me, it sounds at though ou have a better oppertunity with the theatre scholarship. After all, you would still be able to take voice lessons and sing in the choir. If actually having the MT degree under your belt means a lot to you thought, then go with that. Either way, you are going to get a GREAT education in theatre, which is what counts.

Definitely go with the scholarship!! You can always audition for shows (where the REAL theatre education comes from) and still take classes in the other disciplines. If you don't have to have student loans, then avoid them at all costs! This economy is getting worse by the day and if you can avoid being in debt then do it! Besides you can always go to the grad program there for MT if you still want to!

I got this from my friend who goes there:

Just be aware that there are differences in the two programs. If you accept theatre, you are bound by their courses and vica versa. While you can audition for the musicals, theatre people are not the first priority of casting (although theatre students do get cast).

Just be aware that being an OCU theatre student is not the same as being an OCU MT student.

It's actually the music school in general, not just the "MT" degree (Kelli and Kristin were both Vocal Performance majors!) that holds the highest caliber and prestige than other programs at present. But your friend's advice is correct and accurate, WSS2. :)
