"Have to disagree with your comments about the Jersey boys their performance was really brilliant and what have their looks got to do with anything?"
My point is that it is not a good show and it was not a good section, and i have my reasons, it's another Juke-box musical about a story, that isnt that interesting! The songs are painful (But the cast are very good) and its 3 hours of nothing that goes no where, i no people will disagree with me, but this is my opinion of the show. I know alot of you that will stand up for it, will also offend WWRY, just think to yourselves, whats the difference? There both Juke-box shows, with poor stories and scripts that are weak, at least WWRY has good songs and is fun! (by the way, I dont like WWRY!)
I can understand and respect that people like Jersey Boys, I'm just saying I dont, and I gave my reasons, but the cast is very good, the staging is very good, and I would never wish it to close, just as I would never wish any show to close as I would feel sorry for those incredibly talented people who would me made out of work!
This hasn't screened in Australia as yet, but a friend downloaded it and brought it around for me to see. I'm only going to talk about the West End musical highlights. I'm not familiar with any any of the performers (except Graham Norton) so I can't single individuals out but here are my impressions (in brief):
JERSEY BOYS - seemed fine, not as sharp as the same piece I've seen performed on the Tonys by the Broadway cast but good.
ZORRO - don't know much about this one but it did seem to have a certain camp quality, but a decent enough performance.
LA CAGE AUX FOLLES - Huh? Where to begin? Awful. Firstly did no one design the make up for this show? All the males looked about as good as a group of footballers in drag for the first time. There was no bust built into their can can costumes and bad wigs didn't help either. Someone needs to get to Graham Norton in a hurry and give him a good make up - as he is now he looks like a pug dog. The choreography was dire and poorly executed. I can't believe that this is what passes as a West End musical these days. I'd read many good reports on this show here so I was expecting something a hell of a lot better than what was presented. I don't think they did themselves any favours - based on that performance the general public will I think choose to see JERSEY BOYS over this one.
