Show recomendations?

I'll be in London during the third week of March and want to see some shows. I've been doing a little bit of research, but I'd love to hear what people more familiar with the West End have to say.

Is it worth my while to preorder tickets, or should I just buy at the box office? I definitely want to see Les Miz and was just going to visit TKTS for that one. However, I'm strongly considering Virginia Woolf. Should I preorder or take my chances with TKTS and/or the box office?

I'm also considering Billy Elliot, but think I'll pass it up in order to see Virginia Woolf. As a little Kansas girl, I don't get up to NYC as often as I'd like, and I was devestated to miss that one.

Any suggestions are welcome, but I am a college student with a tight budget. Thank you!

Billy Elliot is a good show, great score, however thought the acting lacked a little but i went to watch the dance (being a dance student) and never seen anything so stunning. also, try The Woman in White, has a phenomenal set, shame you missed Michael Crawford! Les Mis is good to, and you will get away with going to box offices, if its only you then you'll be fine! hope i've helped!

You did help. However, I hate both Andrew Lloyd Webber and Michael Crawford, so I think I'll be passing up The Woman in White. Thanks though :)

For discount tickets in advance, check Broadwaybox.com. there is a link to the left for London. I got several tickets that way. I also used the TKTS booth, but they didn't always have what I wanted.

Although there are no discounts that I know of, I recommend Billy Elliott, which was a very moving production. You might want to check out Woman in Black;you can get discounts through Broadwaybox or the TKTS booth. WIB is a two-actor, suspensful drama and it is worth seeing. You will get a taste of British theater (same goes for Billy Elliott). On that note, Blood Brothers is another very British production. Not my favorite, but it is worth seeing and you will be able to get discount tickets.

Enjoy WAOVW! I saw the last performance in New York and it was fantastic. The time flew by and every actor was riveting.

edit: Have you looked at theatremonkey.com? It is a great site. It not only has reviews but it gives advice on seating - where not to sit, best value for the money. Great site that I used extensively when I planned my trip.

re: Show recomendations?

Def. Billy Elliot, to pass this show up would be an awfully big mistake. It is gonna be a big hit in New York, and if you don't get up to New York that often, you needa to see it when you can. Also Mary Poppins, this show I think is FANTASTIC. Everything about it was great, also going to Broadway in fall of 2006, and I would hate for you to miss that one. I can see that you really want to see Who's Afraid Of..., I have never seen the show, and I am sure it is Fantastic, but that show will come around again, and you will have other oppurtunities to see it. Also the show is from America, and while your in London try to see London theater...and nothing is more English then Billy Elliot and Mary Poppins. of course if you are looking at something at the London version of TKTS, you might wanna check out Blood Brothers, and of course the obvious (les miz, the phantom, etc.) becuase those shows are worth seeing more then once. Plus you can see them where they originated which is kind of a cool thing to do.
