re: Wicked - first preview....

"It's good to see me, isn't it!" IS scripted - NOT an ad-lib.

The whole line goes "It's good to see me, isn't it! No need to respond, it was rhetorical." And then Glinda starts her song.

re: Wicked - first preview....

oh god-Have totally missed this "Wicked" thing-head has been elsewhere- mainly in "Spamalot". What does anyone reckon about queueing for returns on the day-when you go can you let me know if it is a complete and utter nightmare-or if anyone finds that they have a spare ticket- I will be more than happy to oblige

ANYONE FANCY GOING TO SEE CABARET SOME TIME JUST TO CHANGE THE SUBJECT-

re: Wicked - first preview....

last night, the whole experience of getting into the theatre was a nightmare. I would imagine that further into the run getting day of tickets will be somewhat easier.

I can't wait for Cabaret though...

re: Wicked - first preview....

Im assuming the person who said Jenna would be the alternate meant standby (seeing as there are no alternates in wicked).

I doubt it's true- why would she go from a principal role (and a huge one at that) to be a standby and only go on every now and then?

Almost certainly wont happen.

re: Wicked - first preview....

If it places her in line to replace Kerry I would take it! Getting paid while taking a vocal break would pay the bills and set up a potential future full time lead. I would take that in a secre: Wicked - first preview....

re: Wicked - first preview....

regarding Idina and signing: she gets mobbed, and it's really scary. However, if people clear a path for her, she signs as much as possible, but no pictures with her (and I don't blame her, it's a total zoo). So, if you want an autograph, it's hard but doable (wait near her car, it will give you a better shot).

re: Wicked - first preview....

to the jenna not doing it comment, kerry ellis is bigger than her, much bigger than her but like someone said, at a chance to get the role eventually it would be worth it. Also shes been in rock you for ages and like kerry might want a bit of a break. Sit home everynight waiting for a call in the day, getting paid tons. Nice!

re: Wicked - first preview....

Saw the show again this afternoon (I bought my Thursday tickets, and my parents got me tickets for my birthday :3) and the cast are settling in a lot better now. The cherrypicker broke down, so Idina did not get to defy gravity this afternoon, but she still stormed ahead anyway. She was phenomenal, and belted the crap out of the bits she was having troubles with on Thursday. Helen was actually in real tears at the end, bless her little heart, and Adam was a lot more fluid today. Once the hitches are ironed out, this'll be a show any 'Wicked' fan would love to see. Hell, you'd probably love to see it now. :3

re: Wicked - first preview....

What are the stalls in the theater? Sorry to sound dumb.

re: Wicked - first preview....

Stalls are what we in the United Kingdom call orchestra seats. Dont worry about sounding dumb we are all rather used to it from your lovely people re: Wicked - first preview....

re: Wicked - first preview....

Weez- thanks for the quick review. Glad to hear that things are settling down and the cast is starting to gel. After hearing that, I think I might head back to the show in a couple months and see how things have progressed.

re: Wicked - first preview....

Just been to see Saturday nights show.
Love my musicals and couldnt wait to see WICKED as heard so much about and read the book and heard the soundtrack
Queued up for returns at 6pm there wer 4 people in front. Got a brilliant seat in the centre stalls.
The set the costumes were superb.
Loved Idina , what a performer. Helen was great but a little dissapointed in her rendition of Popular(serves me right by listening to the CD) but it still was great
As for Adam Garcia the ensemble so carried him through Dancing through Life. Miriam was great especially when warning the Citizens of OZ.
Would love to go see opening night!! might have to q for returns early though

re: Wicked - first preview....

The first performance I'm seeing is next Saturday, I'm forcing myself not to listen to the soundtrack for the next week.

Trying not to build the whole thing up to much, although it was scary how excited I was when Idina was announced. Think I'm still as excited now...

re: Wicked - first preview....

just out of interest...how did they stage defying gravity if idina didnt go up on the cherry picker? did they just congregate around her or something hehe?

re: Wicked - first preview....

She ran to the front of the stage and stood as tall as she could. Glinda was off to one side so just cowered a little bit. The guards with their guard-axes lay down on their backs and stared up at Elphie, and when the ensemble ran on at the end, they just stood behind, rather than coming to the front and looking up. It was still pretty cool. re: Wicked - first preview....

re: Wicked - first preview....

I saw it Monday evening and loved it. I was thoroughly absorbed, it was the best thing I had seen in a long time.

I thought all the cast were stellar with the exception of Nigel Planer as the Wizard, who was weak, This was reflected in the applause at the end, there were very few cheers for him causing him to raise an eyebrow as he took his bow.

I thought Idina was fabulous and deserves all the accolades heaped upon her. What she does with Defying Gravity, WOW. The whole thing was hugely entertaining, and I see it again next month.

re: Wicked - first preview....

i've just back from seeing Wicked tonight, and what can i say. The sets, costumes and lighting are second to none. Also Idina is fantastic, and that is one of the problems, because she is so good, when she is not on stage it gets very dull. When the first half of any show starts to drag you know your in trouble. Thankfully this saved by Defying Gravity, which is one of the best act 1 finale's i've ever seen.

I had my doubts about the score when i listened to the cd, but I thought seeing it live might change my mind. I'm afraid it didnt.

With all the money the've spent on Marketing i can see it have a healthy run in the UK, but i doubt it'll get the same staus as it has in Broadway. For me Idina made it worth watching, but the rest of the cast just didnt cut it for me.
