nealb1,

I remember reading one of Lea's tweets a couple weeks ago that her Morongo concert got canceled and she didn't know why. Plus it was the 2nd time that casino canceled a concert of hers.

The casino could've at least let people know ahead of time. I wonder if that happens a lot with casinos. People probably would still take part in other casino activities just so they don't waste a trip. I know my family would.

I thought it wasn't confirmed yet that Lea would be a part of the Broadway staging. But if they've been "eyeing" her to star in it, it has to be almost certain, right? So when it is, I'll book a flight to NY. And I'll make Allegiance my first Broadway show.

PiraguaGuy2, I feel the same way.

nealb1, all your points make sense. But it doesn't make me feel better. I don't know why it matters to me. I just wish she was as big a star here as she is in the Philippines.

Please forgive me, as my user name suggests, I am close to clueless when it comes to theater. I feel like now I'm guilty of blasphemy for imagining Miss Saigon not sung thru. I do love the musical and most of the music. Only some parts bother me for being unnatural. At those parts I think, who talks like that? But I think it would be great if most of lyrics are included. I'm just not sure how it would work. How would it appeal to movie goers who aren't used to that? I don't know if many people w

Sorry malia, I guess I did mean no accent. It's true Charice doesn't have much of an accent when she sings, but it's very obvious when she talks. And I didn't expect the Miss Saigon movie to be sung thru, making it exactly like the musical. I imagined it as mostly dialogue with some songs included.

Dshar, I didn't want to get into an argument again. But film and television still has Asian sterotypes. Most Asian men aren't stars of a movie unless they are martial artists - Jet Li and Ja

Your welcome. I knew she mentioned it in one of her articles. I didn't go searching thru every one. I was just lucky to find it quick.

Dshar, Lea talked about her Tagalog in her Backstory article about starring in a Filipino film.

"Second, I couldnâ??t hurdle the huge language barrier. I was very fluent in English, but extremely poor in Tagalog. I had no idea what possessed me to say YES to this! I was absolutely terrible! I kept mixing up namin and natin, and heaven only knows how much of the dialogue I could actually comprehend."

Dshar, Carla Abellana

Lea speaking good English is probably because she grew up speaking English more than she did Tagalog. jsg03jd is right. Lea has admitted that speaking Tagalog is not something she's good at. If a school is responsible for a Filipino speaking English without an accent, there should be more Filipinos that speak like Lea. But it's not easy to find.

Dshar, just because you are taught in English in school doesn't mean you can speak English without an accent. Even Monique Wilson didn't speak as well as Lea. And sorry, I can tell Charice isn't American in that video.

jsg03jd, I knew she grew up speaking mainly English, but I never knew the reason. Thanks, I always wanted to find out why.

Why would casting have to be in Asia? There are a lot of Asians from the US. With Sarah Geronimo and Charice, there's the problem of their accents. I would prefer that Kim spoke American English, even though a Vietnamese girl in the 1970s probably didn't. As an Asian-American, I've always been bothered by Asians in film with accents because it perpetuates the stereotype that Asians can't speak English well.

On a related note, that's a big reason I'm such a big fan of Lea Salonga, a

Yes, exactly. I've never been great at explaining things. My point was to get to know who the big stars are in theater with a perspective that I'm familiar with - Hollywood.

My explanation for Kristin Chenoweth = Reese Witherspoon was too simplistic. I assume Kristin Chenoweth to be widely popular just like Reese Witherspoon, who is one of the highest paid actresses ever. The Hollywood Kristen Chenoweth actually isn't very famous if you don't know Broadway. Before last year I honestly

HollyGolightly2,

Both. I haven't watched Wicked, but I've heard the song Popular. I really wanted to use a different word, so it wasn't like I was trying to be clever, but I couldn't think of a better one. Famed? Prominent? Distinguished?

best12bars,

I was just curious to know whether she was well known and recognized for the talent I see. I knew she probably wasn't in the A-list. Yeah, it really shouldn't matter.

Sparklesss,

Yeah, I was just thinking movies.

I wanted people to have fun with this. Maybe I'll try another to get the ball rolling. Hopefully it's better than my 1st attempt.

Kristin Chenoweth would be Reese Witherspoon. Both are short, cute, and popular.

If musical theater were Hollywood...

Since I'm not very knowledgeable about the stars of theater, I wanted to know who are the A-listers, B-listers, etc. And more specifically, where Lea Salonga fits into this group because she's the reason I've started to be interested in theater. I don't know if I can give a good example of what I want. So something like this:

If musical theater were Hollywood, (theater performer) would be (Hollywood star).

If musical theater were Hollywood, Julie Andrews would be Audrey Hep
