Were there any actual upsets last night? Jun 14

I consider myself a discriminating NYC theatergoer, and get great pleasure from my theatergoing habit. "Orphans Home Cycle", "Clybourne Park", "Chad Deity", and "My Wonderful Day" were among my top picks last season, opinions shared by many theater critics, and yet none of them was honored or even acknowledged at the Tonys. The Tonys are to the best NYC theater what the Oscars are to quality film-making - perfectly irrelevant.

My thoughts on ENRON May 9

I think there is a large potential audience for this kind of play as many men who avoid the theater perk up when the subject is money and business. Friends with good taste in theater were about equally split on this play; many really liked it. The British are often moralistic and judgemental about Americans, and when I saw this tone in "Enron" I knew it would have trouble.

I thought this musical by Dan Savage about the tribulations of child adoption by him and his boyfriend was wonderful. I'm guessing we will see it move to Broadway eventually and become a huge hit.
