MAYBE HAPPY ENDING Reviews

Jarethan said: "I do not see this until June (I now believe it will be opened then), but I have a question. With a lot of complaints about the staging -- that you have sightline issues if you are not pretty close to the center -- should Michael Arden be a serious candidate for Best Director? What people describe seems like it should have been completely avoidable with a slight redesign of the set. Failure to do that seems like disregard for a sizable segment of the audience.&quo

If this is the same as his 54 Below show, it will be fantastic!

AUDRA GYPSY Reviews

Although I think Audra is giving a performance of the ages, the two biggest missteps are, as noted above, All I Need Is the Girl and the Strip sequence.  Not sure anyone could have topped Yazbeck doing the original choreography with Benanti. And has the Garden Of Eden dance sequence new to this production?  I don’t recall it in the LuPone or Daly revivals.

This was underwhelming and there is no excuse for the seat backs of the classroom chairs to block so many sight lines.

Mescal to bring Frecknall-helmed STREETCAR to Broadway?
 Jan 29 2025, 07:38:46 AM

There are a lot of subway options from BAM to Times Square. So even though you are going on a Sunday when trains run less frequently and there is often track work on weekends that ends up complicating subway travel, the trip is very unlikely to be more than an hour.

THE LOST BOYS to open at the Palace on Broadway in 2026

I would really love to see Patrick Wilson in a musical. It has been a long time. Since he is not a box office attraction, his return would need to

I’d prioritize Gypsy because of Audra’s performance. It is astonishing despite the fact that her voice and the music aren’t an ideal fit. It’s not the best production of Gypsy but I’d be willing to bet that you will never see a performance as Rose that comes close to the emotional depths that Audra achieves.

i am in the minority on MHE. I thought it was just ok. To say the score is forgettable is generous. But kudos to the staging and set

So it's OK because Audra can "play white"?? What a load of bs.

Why it is OK is because she's 1) a human being & 2) a great actress. Her colour or whatever colors he thinks she can pass for should not be any consideration.

I think he shares a thoughtful reconsideration; I don't find anything racist about it. Audra has played some parts in a "race- neutral" way, while playing Rose as unambiguously Black.

Agreed. Also, John McWhorter is African American.

I see the commercial on TV regularly, as well as on Hulu. I even saw it during the Golden Globes. There are video ads running on the screens on the subway platforms; saw them yesterday. They were in the New York Times Fall Preview issue in November, and I expect they'll a

I’m so impressed that he actually saw the show and then wrote a column recanting his original speculation, especially given how thoughtful his original column was.

Or they could make Every Little Step into a musical so it is about dancers auditioning for a revival of A Chorus Line.

Congestion pricing
 Jan 7 2025, 10:48:13 AM

As someone who lives in Jersey-if I am going to midtown I drive to a park and ride then take a bus. The problem is going anywhere else generally sucks by transit especially working in theatre and often working late or seeing theatre. I think it’s absurd that all of Manhattan south of 60th gets the toll. I’d understand midtown but I feel like you should be able to get to the lower East side without having to pay the toll."

No, the MTA. needs the money. This has much more to do with raising money for the MTA than reducing congestion. It is not getting repealed if there is no decrease in congestion. That isn’t how it works.

50th Anniversary Revival of A CHORUS LINE still on track for 2025?

I don’t think the Bennet estate would allow major changes.

The staging is what makes ACL the astonishing work that it is. I don’t want to see a director with one tenth the talent of Bennet think that he or she or they can do better than Bennet. So I would be more open to book changes and score and lyric changes.

But casting is huge. And the “leads” in the  2006 revival were just…so so.
