The adaption is a truncated version of "The Christopher Boy's Communion," which apparently premiered in L.A. last February.
Did anybody see the actual production before it closed last year? Looks like it only played two weeks.

Examples of shows that turned it around Jun 3

If I'm remembering this correctly, when Chicago previewed out of town its reception was lukewarm. The score was significantly revised before Broadway and a character (Velma's agent, Henry Glassman) was deleted and merged with Mama Morton.
And, although most would agree it didn't "turn it around", The Addams Family underwent pretty heavy revisions during its Chicago preview and before the tour kicked off.

The Addams Family got a nice write up in the Times yesterday. The degree of success the show found in regional & amateur houses after its turbulent preview/Broadway run is certainly inspiring.

Upcoming book on writing "Gentleman's Guide" and musicals to be released(?) Jun 6

Interesting... I wonder how it will address the whole Kind Hearts and Coronets copyright debacle (since the show as it played on Broadway was allegedly based on the novel Israel Rank, and not the movie).

Agree with The Addams Family, especially during the initial Chicago preview. That particular production was the closest the creative team got to getting the original cartoons onstage.

Finn's Royal Family of Broadway Jan 29

Did anyone here see it? Considering the years of workshops Royal Family went through, it seems like it came and went relatively quietly.
Also, is there any type of future for the show, regional or amateur?
