Liza memoir and promotion tour Mar 18 2026, 12:28:09 PM
What's cruel? We can all see it. The piece didn't insult her, and everyone knows this is a person of advanced age who has been through a lot. Nothing seemed mean-sprited. There often seems to be an emperor's new clothes effect with Liza.

An event like this would not really be for me, but there's something really beautiful about the relationship between Liza and her fans. Nmartin's story is kinda heartbreaking.

DOG DAY AFTERNOON Previews Mar 15 2026, 12:44:09 AM
There's a lot of dark humor in the film--which is not not the same as calling it a comedy or claiming that the situation is played for laughs. But given the humor, I'm not surprised the play took up that aspect of it, since the claustrophobic naturalism of the movie--which created much of the tension and anxiety--would be impossible to replicate on a Broadway stage. Sounds like a mishmash in which some talented people get to shine.

She always signs her name with a happy face. Whether the autographs are hers or autopen, I can't say, but the doodle isn't an indication one way or the other.

Quentin Tarantino says his next project is a stage play Mar 11 2026, 09:57:37 PM
I think it's actually a terrible title--and Tarantino is great at titles--but I'm still excited about this. Glad to see he has such strong support among the regulars here. I didn't expect that, and I'm happily surprised.

It was a bizarre tangent.

Given the info in ColdClimateDude's post, I would hope that (in these situations), the ushers' job would be to alert Security ASAP.
It looks/sounds like the issue isn't with ushers, but with New World Stages for (possibly) not having an appropriate number of Security (ifthat is true)."
But what kind of

The fact that they didn't get the memo that Broadway theaters clearly got (remove drunk assholes/tolerate no bullsh*t) is wild because as young as those ushers are there, they need to be trained regarding intoxicated patrons. It ruined the show for everyone in the building, and they really need to do something at that specific show.

If you're worried because it's increasing, maybe vocal coaches other than the guy in that video have been re-evaluating it and found it more advantageous than previously thought.
And what would you consider more important: vocal safety or some rather subtle sound difference. I mean, semi-randomly breaking out into song complete with glory notes and all that in the middle of a conversa

Judy Garland and Liza Minnelli almost did Gypsy at Carnegie Hall Mar 5 2026, 01:56:26 PM
Garland should have been cast in the movie. With all her erratic qualities at that point in her career, what would have wound up on the screen would have been worth it. Russell was awful (great in the right role--this wasn't the right role for her) and Merman might not have faired so well, either, as what she had didn't really translate to the screen.
Liza as Louise, though, on stage or screen would have been a waste of her. Louise is supposed to lack talent, and the show

To me, you sounded dismissive of somone worrying the autograph won't be real, yes. As if it's a minor issue that the publisher will resolve with a payback if it turns out to be fake.

They could be and great if they are. But there's a big difference between signing an autograph vs. hundreds of copies of a book. John Green has talked about how painful it was signing the entire first edition of The Fault in Our Stars, and he was a young person at the ti

It's terrible in the sense that if people want a genuine autograph, they are getting shafted. It isn't about whether a refund is issued--and I suspect the size of the audience who want a Liza autograph is a tad smaller than thos

Is such a certificate worth anything? I have trouble believing that Liza, at her age, could sign all these books. It's a lot even for someone in better condition. And she always signs her autographs the same way (I got one back in the 80's): her name with a smiley face. So it would

Follies and 1972 Tony's Questions Mar 2 2026, 09:56:58 AM
I love that John Guare had invested in Follies. It suggests a stronger community spirit among the Broadway creators of that era than we see today.
