'CATS: The Jellicle Ball' at PAC reviews
 Aug 4 2024, 01:49:49 PM

Just wanted to note that I’ve seen the production twice, once with Tempress Chasity Moore and once with her understudy Garnet Williams. With Moore, I felt the “Memory” staging fell flat. With Williams, I found myself a puddle in my seat. Her performance was remarkable.

SUFFS is coming to Broadway

I’m disappointed to see this. The finale at the Public (“The Young are at the Gates (Reprise)” I think?) was bar none my favorite part of the show. This song is pretty, but on first listen it lacks the joy, power, and upbeat energy that pushed the show’s central message forward into the future. I think this rewrite was a mistake.

Josh Gad & Andrew Rannells to star in GUTENBERG! THE (BEST) MUSICAL (EVER)

There was one like that during the night, when it started to pour, decided to wrap back under the theater marquee. And then proceeded towards 7th Avenue. It was all very orderly, and security once they arrived and got the whole picture, acted very professionally. Both sides had driveways, so people were going to be moving one way or another, but I heard of no

I’m not usually one to come and complain on these boards, but this morning’s publicity stunt was easily the worst box office experience I’ve had after seeing 100+ shows in NYC. I got in line around 8:40, with around 80 people ahead of me. I knew I wouldn’t win one of the lottery seats, but figured I’d stay in case some sort of promotion was offered / to see Andrew (who - side note - was the single highlight of this morning. Just as kind, personable and funny as y

As someone who didn’t discover Appropriate until just last year (shout-out to the good folks at the Drama Book Shop), I’m VERY excited for this production!

Also really livid for Stephen McKinley Henderson. The man is a legendary actor. Sean Hayes, who was wonderful, doesn’t touch the mastery of SMH. That Tony was a joke. Doug Wright is a sitcom writer. He did not write a legendary play.

A SIMULACRUM at ATC
 May 26 2023, 07:36:15 AM

Previews started last night for Lucas Hnath’s newest project, A Simulacrum at ATC. Magic shows are very hit-and-miss for me, but Lucas’ plays consistently wow me. If anyone’s seen, could you share thoughts?

The Comeuppance @ Signature

Has anyone seen Branden Jacobs Jenkins' new play The Comeuppance? Curious to hear thoughts on it. An Octoroon and Appropriate are two of my favorite modern American plays, so I'm surprised to hear very little buzz on this one so far.

TO MY GIRLS at 2ST

Previews for this show begin tonight, but I haven't noticed any buzz about it. Is anyone going to see it this week? I'd love to hear some audience reports before buying a ticket.

I was there last night as well. I think the show's fatal flaw is its book, and fixing it would require a massive plot overhaul that just doesn't seem possible. My reasoning requires some spoilers, so proceed with caution.

1776 Broadway revival cast for 2021
 Apr 17 2020, 04:56:19 PM

To all those who are off-put by this casting: I implore you to withhold judgment until we learn more about the design and interpretation that Paulus is offering. The beauty of revivals is that they provide an opportunity to see familiar stories in a new light. While a traditional interpretation of this story offers a realistic representation of the conversations that took place that fateful summer, the themes of social justice, the desire for representation, and the fight for indepe
