Best Understudies

Diego Rodriguez in Sunset (for Joe) felt like witnessing a star being born.

Greg Jackson in Gentlemen's Guide: he stepped in for Jefferson Mays and playing nine different characters with all those quick changes seemed like a very tall order but he made it seemed easy; he only missed that fey quality that Mays has.

I'm surprised almost no one has anything to say about Molly Osborne, the Desdemona. I guess it speaks for itself when people are raving about Emilia but say nothing about the Desdemona.

No Mask for Orville Peck

The Emcee is one of the few characters a person could play in a mask and it not be completely absurd...so I don't blame people for wondering. It's not like he signed up for Henry Higgins. Anyway I'm sure he will be great unmasked.

Yes, I've seen several pics and videos of him stagedooring, including an adorable interaction with a little girl who said she found it "funny." He's seems really sweet.

This is not about cute similarities.

It's all fun until she completely trashes Andrew Lloyd Webber, calls Eva Peron a weird b*tch and says the most terrible things about her co-stars in the production.

This is about her attitude, charact

AUDRA GYPSY Reviews
 Mar 13 2025, 11:02:39 AM

Maybe it's just that I've had months to get used to the idea of Audra singing Rose, but her head voice doesn't sound out of place at all in "Together wherever we go." She sounds delicious. I remember Lansbury used head voice in this number as well.

Yeah, where the hell are the moderators? I dared to reply to America’s Sweetheart, Sutton Ross, with a slightly snarky comment in response to little Madame completely trashing me on here, and it was deleted. Meanwhile, half the posts in this thread are personal attacks. Whomever is running this board better decide what their rules are and apply them evenly

Broadway Grosses: Week Ending 3/9/25

The reality is some of y'all are mad because people are paying $$$ to see a BLACK MAN on that stage, but y'all aren't ready for that conversation I fear.

White Supremacy cannot and will not accept that affluent white folk are putting down big bucks to see Denzel in a play by one of the Great White men of all time, Mister Shakespeare. (To be clear, this comment is not aimed at totally effed in particular, but rather at the outrage here and reddit in totality).&

THE QUEEN OF VERSAILLES with Kristin Chenowith & F. Murray Abraham to open at St. James in November

She goes on shopping sprees. But she never accomplishes anything. It’s hard to build a musical around that."

It seems like the main problem is the source material. That can't be fixed with a few tweaks or even extensive rewriting.

I feel like it worked bc one thing that's never made sense about the musical is how damned earnest all the ALW power ballads seem as a response to a movie that is deliberately cruel and ironic. Billy Wilder made you care about Norma by highlighting all the ways she's ridiculous. It's pathetic and sad. ALW power ballads are more "yasss queen" than pathetic and sad.

But by making it all so artifcial, and making Norma SO the

I was hearing the fire escape, another outdoor gimmick a la SUNSET BOULEVARD. No seat reconfiguration necessary, just live video.

Also, the whole “October 2028” really did not lift off into any real concept. At best, I got a little bit of a “Patriots” vibe based on the set and costuming, but I can’t for the life of me figure what Kenny was trying to do here.

Based on Leon's statement I shared upthread, it seems like "October 2028" doesn't mean anything; he simply wants Othello to not take place in the current political

It's so counterintuitive to cast a Max that is younger than the Norma, but it works beautifully. The audience burst into applause halfway through "The greatest star of all" after he held "fade" forever in chest voice.

OTHELLO ticket prices?!

If you are from out of town, your best bet is to leave a slot open on your schedule and check theatr app for last minute deals. There really isn't a way for an out of towner to buy inexpensive seats ahead of time.

I think a lot of people misinterpret people being honest about a shows chances as "vultures hoping for a show to fail" when that isn't the intention, but in your case it is obvious that you are gleeful about this show failing. It's obnoxious and a little strange.
