CSC 2025-2026 Season
 Jun 12 2025, 12:12:41 PM

Always thought CSC or the Roundabout would be perfect to produce The Baker's Wife. I liked it a lot when the Papermill did it years ago. However,  I am disappointed that Endless Delights has been excised from the licensed show.

Encores! 2026 Update?
 Jun 10 2025, 12:53:31 PM

Excited for HIGH SPIRITS, which was supposed to be featured in the 2018 revue HEY, LOOK ME OVER, but later excised. The rest of the season I'll probably skip.

Encores! 2026 Update?
 Jun 6 2025, 02:28:15 PM

Someone had mentioned on another website rumors OF THEE I SING,  which they did 20 years ago, and Master Voices did before the pandemic. Whether that's true or not, I don't know.

Thanks, I miss the $38 obstructed view seats that are no longer offered at that price.

Upcoming UK Opera North LOVE LIFE radio broadcast
 Feb 24 2025, 08:32:28 PM

It's an excellent broadcast. Posted on the BBC Radio website shortly after the Saturday airing and available only for a month for listening.

Curious to know if the cast album is from a live performance or are they going into the studio to record the score? Looking forward to its release as it's an excellent score.

From what I've heard it sounded like Jack Viertel had a personal vendetta against Me and Juliet?
"

When I asked him, he didn't seem that enthusiastic. Ted Chapin from R&H would just say "We'll see."
"

I was at a Zoom discussion with Chapin where he full out said that it was because Viertel was against doing Me and Juliet (he did point out that the original reviews felt the star of the show was Jo Mielziner's complex, mechanized scenery--groundbreaking in many ways--which of course couldn't be replicated for Encores. But that score needs a better recording.)

So considering the director do we imagine this Wonderful Town will be... not traditional? I mean we already have the crazy Toulon opera version on DVD. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VU7dOTbi5aU&t=1s

And yet didn't the Mufti just use a ladder and very little else? I didn't get to see it.

Again? Meanwhile, I've been waiting too long to see another show from that same year, ME & JULIET. Ugh!

This Kern gem is being done this weekend at Lenfest Center for the Arts. Admission is free. Just saw the matinee and it was excellent.

It was mobbed today. Left after about a half an hour. And some of the prices on some of the merch was insane.

Erivo, Graham, Gotay, and more to lead A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC IN CONCERT
 Jun 29 2024, 04:04:01 PM

Rushed this afternoon and got a 2nd row orchestra seat for $50. Couple next to me paid $175 a piece. It was very good but under rehearsed. Erivo stopped midway Miller's Son and had to get back on track.  Overall though, it was a nice afternoon.

Titanic at City Center
 Jun 22 2024, 05:55:06 PM

Just saw the matinee. This was gorgeously sung. At first I was disappointed this was chosen,  but glad I saw it. My first Encores title which I saw the original production. I was curious if any ticket buyers were expecting a musical version of the 1997 film.

Musicals that will never be revived on Broadway

LADY IN THE DARK, which happens to be one of my favorite shows, is dated and would be so expensive to produce with a full orchestra.

NY City Center Encores 2024 season: ONCE UPON A MATTRESS with Sutton Foster (adapted by Amy Sherman-Palladino), JELLY'S LAST JAM, and TITANIC
 May 13 2024, 07:54:02 PM

The Kurt Weill Foundation has already posted online of two upcoming productions of LOVE LIFE. Opera North in Leeds is doing it in January and plans to record the show.  The other may be the Encores! rescheduling. More curious to know what other 2 titles are being considered. Anyone know the inside scoop?
