OTHELLO Previews Mar 21

They dropped production photos tonight, on a Friday night—when you typically drop news that you want buried, lol.
I wonder if it’s because they know they’re kind of…bad photos. I don’t think you can clearly see Denzel’s face in a single one, people’s bodies and feet weirdly cut off in the group shot and it feels like nothing’s happening in them.…a genuinely perplexing set of photos, and I’m not sure I get any more sense of what the set/show overall looks like from them. I’m honestly wondering if Denzel asked not to show his face clearly in any of them, lol.

JOHN PROCTOR IS THE VILLAIN Previews Mar 21
2025, 07:19:24 PM
I’m very happy for English and John Proctor to both be considered new plays (though I wish they could both walk away with the prize), but I’m curious what actually makes something a revival vs new in the Tony’s eyes.

I genuinely believe that this play and English might be two of my favorite plays of the last decade or so.
But are they both going to be in the Best Play category? Wasn't John Proctor is the Villain written before the pandemic? And English 3 years ago?
I haven't seen Oh, Mary which I know a lot of people say is a Best Play contender but I can't imagine there's a third play that is THIS good this year.

Wow I don’t think I’ve ever seen Whitney White miss. Her direction was the last thing I thought I’d hear criticism of in this production.

This reviews feel spot on to me. Like yeah—the book kinda blows. But given the heights this show reaches in the beauty of its music and its staging—does it really matter? I didn’t think so and no one around me did either. I thought this was a pretty thrilling night at the theater.

Yeah--now that I've had chance to take a look at Kolton's actual post on this matter, but they don't mention receiving boos
This initial post in this thread seems to be misleading, though I suppose Kolton's post might confuse some, as they mention feeling it during their solo bow.
Kolton has decided to forgo bows for the foreseeable future, but they don't really cite boos--just the feeling that the country is unsafe for trans and nobinary people

The jump from not understanding Kolton’s decision to “blaming” Kolton is a big one. It’s comments like these that we can point to and see why we are where we are in the country sometimes: is al

Mescal to bring Frecknall-helmed STREETCAR to Broadway? Mar 15

That is so wild for me to read. I think I’ve seen like 5 or 6 productions of this show and thought it was as poetic as I’d ever seen it here. To each their own! 🤷🏻♀️

I don't think that's what inception is asking--I'd imagine they are asking why it's feasible for a six week run at BAM, when shows do brief runs on Broadway (like Good Night and Good Lukc).
I think the answer is that BAM is a non profit, and though I don't know the financial specifics, they have the infrastructure where they regularly bring in foreign productions for brief runs. I'm not sure if these are at all profitable (hence...non profit), bu

I'm assuming the person who is disappointed their front row seat was not front row might be young and seeing theater for the first time, so I don't think we need to mock them.
However I'd offer up to this person: 10 feet from the stage is incredibly close, and the cushion seats are on the floor, so this should not have affected your view of the show or your actual proximity to the action at all. You still had a better seat than those on the floor (how uncomfortabl

I saw this yesterday. I thought it was absolutely stunning. I have not yet seen the Cabaret revival so this was my intro to Rebecca Frecknall, and now I need to see everything she does. Stripping this play down this way somehow made it feel more carnal & more poetic than I’ve seen it before.
Patsy Ferran is the star here in the cast. She is cast against type for Blanche—small, brunette, unglamorous—and she is fragile, wounded, yet also defiant,

I saw a reading of this play several years ago and thought it was fantastic, but I am a woman of similar age to the playwright & think it really resonates with me, and likely will with other Zillenial women. I think it really captured that moment of anxiety when you're about to enter adulthood after college. It was funny & moving & felt very relatable. I'm curious to see how it reads fully staged since it seemed to be just...girls sitting at a table the whole play.

Denzel's Othello has 274 lines. Jake's Iago has 1,097 lines.
Iago is second only to Hamlet for having the most lines inShakespeare. And this is Jake's first time doing the Bard.
I'mastonished by how actors can memorize so many lines. I can barely recallwhat I had for lunch yesterday.
"
Not sure what your source is on that, but I’m pretty sure it’s wrong. That would make Othello have fewer lines than Desdemona and Emilia.
Othello has 880 lines, Iago 1088, about 200 more. Othello is still one of the biggest parts in Shakespeare.

STILL, he’s been attached to this for 11 months, so I don’t believe it’s an excuse. I’ve seen hundreds of performances of Shakespeare in my life and I don’t think I’ve ever seen an actor call line in front of an audience—including several Lears, who you might expect it from.
Did see Puck completely go up on his lines though in a production—in the final week of performances. It happens!

Damn. I don’t want to be judge someone who is 70 struggling with lines—who knows what my memory will be like at that age? It affects everyone differently and I imagine is deeply frustrating for anyone who starts to see their memory go. Has Washington struggled with lines in the past?
At the same time, as someone who has performed a lot of it, I’d say that Shakespearean verse is usually one of the easier things to memorize because it has a rhythm and feel
