If this show is (hopefully) a hit and has a long life, who could realistically succeed Clark? She’s so perfect it’s actually hard to think of people. It’s such an incredible role for a woman of that age but also seems very hard to recast with someone who brings to it the innocence she’s able to.
Joanna Gleason, maybe?

Joanna Gleason is a fabulous idea.
Something tells me Donna Murphy would actually be fabulous. I know that we haven't seen that type of pure innocence from her (as far as I know), but if you look at the insane range she's played and how glorious of an actor she is, I think she could pull it off. Don't know how her voice is these days.
I thought of Donna Murphy as well.
Judy Kuhn. Rebecca Luker would have been magnificent.
Gleason is an inspired idea, really.
Donna Murphy for sure. Maybe Annie Golden?
I jokingly thought of Bernadette Peters because she’s ageless and still had the voice of a young girl.
Rachel Bay Jones eventually.

She sounded great in Netflix’s The Prom. (runs and hides)

I fear they will need someone as big as Bette Midler to help sell tickets.
Didn't she play The Booth before?
Also, more than a few times, Victoria’s portrayal and voice sounded so much like Frances Conroy, it made me wish she was just a touch younger and could sing.
Jayne Houdyshell? She may be a bit too old. but she did do Coraline.
Rachel B J … in everything.
Has Meryl already optioned the film rights?
I really like the Judy Kuhn suggestion.
Kuhn also has that sweetness to her that would be wonderful.
Nancy Opel. Hell, I’d throw money at Carol Kane to give it a whirl.

Ha!
Donna Murphy was the first that came to mind for me.

Most of these suggestions are way too young reading. In some ways, so is Victoria, but she pulls it off. It needs to be someone who is not glamorous. Betty Buckley would kill it. No one can ever replace Mary Louise Burke, though.

Annie Golden actually did the Sundance lab for it in 2017

Patti LuPone wouldn't be right for the role, but it would be hysterical to watch her take.
