last time I post on here
thought I might find some fellow theater loving friends in need of a powerful and rich theater experience that has been long overdue
I'm tired of satirical musicals and movie/musicals..ie legally blonde, spiderman, and Shrek
porgy and bess is what we've been waiting for
so go see it and then let's talk about it
finally, Broadway has gotten back in touch with its artistic side
and let hollywood deal with commercializing art and going

I'm not sure if they're doing lottery yet but I've done lottery a lot in the past and almost every time I manage to win tix

Follies--and was dissappointed
not much I loved about that other than the costumes
I did see HAIR four times, also directed by Diane Paulus
that was a really terrific production

this is a website dedicated to theater and this is a message board to discuss Broadway
if you don't care about what I'm saying than just stop reading
but I only posted because I was so moved by the performance and I feel compelled to post somewhere about it
I want to engage in a conversation about the work--I know it has been getting a lot of heat from Sondheim, which is why my friend wanted to see it first preview, thinking maybe Sondheim would show up haha, and I really would love

yes definitely
the show does not feel staged, choreographed, or rehearsed. Sometimes I feel that a play seems like everything is anticipated and the director and designers have made an effort to remind the audience that they are in a theater by using gimmicks and such. Porgy and Bess is directed and acted in such a way that it does not feel directed or rehearsed--the story and action unfolds before your eyes. This kind of magic that allows an audience to be completely captured by a stor

dude, go see this show and then we can talk about how this is the first REAL musical on Broadway that makes you actually feel something
there's no belty ballads or gimmicks
its real art

I saw the first preview of PORGY AND BESS last night and
was completely blown away by the production
The voices alone are enough to make you leap to your feet and worship the actors
But the entire production-oh my god
from the beautiful costumes, powerful choreography, and soulful performances, Porgy and Bess is EVERYTHING a Broadway show should be
AND MORE
Diane Paulus' staging is perfect--so carefully done yet, as an audience member, it feels real and all the movem
