"1. When the fairy tale characters line up at the beginning, they have Sieber's Farquaad over the sound system, ala A Chorus Line asking them what's special about them. They even have an "I hope I Get It" style song and it is hysterical. I almost feel out of my chair in laughter." There was something in the third Shrek movie, I believe, that screamed A Chorus Line with the opening number melody.

JayStarr, "Do we have subjunctive in English? I know we do.. but never heard it.... " We do, it's just confusing to identify because it's not as straight-forward as in Spanish. One "famous" example is "Oh I wish I was an Oscar Meyer wiener" when it should be "Oh I wish I WERE...." and other examples like that. This may help. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Subjunctive

I think she'll do well with the character, especially after seeing her in moments of Harry Potter (and a few other films). I'm sure Sondheim did approve her, but I guess I'll always see her as the wife/or whatever she is of the director, although she is a good actress. I agree with ray-andallthatjazz86. It's like a movie being created from a book, an author doesn't have complete say in what is going to be portrayed, the director just likes to have the author's opinion.

I guess this puts me a little more at ease about things and songs getting cut. Thanks for the link/post.

My goodness, I this show. My favorite lines are.. or were... "that's pure vodka, you poop" "Who are you, Who am I, and why is this cake on fire?" The quote about Cocaine in the toothpaste. "It was the 5th ingredient on the list, right after sugar" "I thought I'd ruin the moment by proxy" and "I'm sure in the 1920s they had something for the ruining of moments, bugles maybe" (i don't think i got those exactly correct) and "Try not

I think my favorite was "A Big Two Weeks On The Riviera" In "Here I Am," it took me the longest time to realize she was singing some phrases in French. I thought I just couldn't understand it. And yesterday, I was listening to "Omigod You Guys" with my brother. The part that goes, "can't look like I'm desperate or like I'm waiting for it." He thought it went, "can't look like a desperate whore, like I'm waiting for it." It kinda fits.

Would it work the same if the Judge was just whipping himself and not masturbating? We already know he's thinking about Johanna in a sexual way.

oh I love the Quartet. I don't know about how it would be done in the film, it seems a lot to be going on, and i think they would have to be switching scenes a lot, because Johanna and Anthony, and the Judge and whoever he is with, i forget at the moment, are in different places right? As for the Judge's Johanna, unless he is naked like LostLeander said, unless he's naked, I don't see why it would need an NC17 rating.

Actually, maybe she can play Clara in the Piazza Tour. It might boost sales and the audience will have no problem understanding that Clara is "special". One of the few things to make me laugh all day.

re: OFFICIAL! PBS will broadcast COMPANY!!! Jun 29

I sincerely hope that we don't get soo many closeups and weird angles. I think with Company (and with John Doyle), there are things going on the side that we miss, so I hope there are some wide views, &c. Especially, since they are playing their own instruments, I hope it's not a closeup on Bobby the entire time.

thank god for you people. i've always thought Purple Summer was a great song, and I understood it (the meaning and all), but every time I listen to the CR, or when I saw the show, I wondered how they just transitioned to that point. It doesn't fit, and I think it was random because the concept of Purple Summer had not been mentioned before, they just started singing about it.

i think an easy way to see it is the mics are like they are pausing the action to speak about what is going on. it's not what is physically happening, it's their thoughts about what is happening

thanks. i thought it looked and sounded great. i'm not the biggest fan of the new lyrics though. well at least the lyrics that have changed since the demos. they took out my favorite line which was "behind you was hiding the whole world outside and i've opened the door" at least i think those were the lyrics.
