Opening Night tickets

@gfaustswa: oh of course I won't be attending any big party or whatever -- I've just always been curious what the experience is like in the house on opening night -- the energy, the electricity, any big names in the audience, etc... and of course, the bragging rights after -- esp. if it's either great, or a complete disasterpiece.

Are tickets to the general public ever on sale for any major B'way show's opening night? Or are they invite/industry only? Just curious. Would love to experience that but doubt i'll ever have the chance if it's invite only.

On the list to pop backstage to visit a friend starring in a show, what's the appropriate etiquette? Do I bring flowers? Is that only for Opening Night? What if it's later in the run? or in previews? Just curious if anyone has any advice here...
