Why hasn't The Wizard of Oz appeared more on Broadway?

Having seen it...I am not surprised.

I did not see the RSC production, the Wizard of Oz is perhaps my favorite movie. That said the way the movie is written works better on film then onstage, especially for a modern audience. The songs are all great but aside from Over the Rainbow could sorta be estab

7 or 8 o’clock curtain?
 Jul 2 2024, 07:09:33 AM

7 means I still get home early enough that it doesn’t throw of my sleep schedule (in Jersey). I also think the poster who points out how the 7 o clock curtain is better for theatre workers makes a BRILLIANT point. This goes into the industry question of creating a semblance of work life balance. I work in theater-not on broadway-but just convincing places not to end tech days at (or after) midnight when people have early calls for crew work the next day is a struggle.

I would say Ivo’s Rumble was more like you were watching a real fight  (to my memory I only saw it once). Danya’s is very stylized and dancelik

But you are directly addressing the people who are whining, who were not doing that here so it seems misplaced.

I do think it’s silly that Lempicka closed so quickly and W4E and HK got a bunch of Tony noms but alas.

I thought the group numbers came off FAR better than the power ballads, which just contain a myriad of lyrics that range from cringe to not making much sense for the character at all. The ensemble numbers at least are fun and I'm not paying all that much attention to what the lyrics are doing, so it hides any deficiencies they might have. Maybe I'd like the power ballads more if they had better lyrics, but they ju

This may be just a first listen reaction but I think I dislike many of the Papermill changes to the power ballads I already liked. It’s the ensemble numbers I already didn’t like that I still don’t like.

And if it did, it was a very small one, and that is not enough to keep the show open. All those people who were always going- did they tell their friends to go? Did those friends pay full price? Did they keep spreading the word? I'm thinking-- no. So- stop whining I beg of you"<

LIGHT IN THE PIAZZA to transfer to Broadway?

This is an opera roll essentially. James had the perfect voice for it, much better than Morrison. I like many of the movie names thrown around a few posts back but I don’t think any of them can sing the part remotely well

I saw it last weekend. I was very curious to see how the original design worked and after some searching I found a full very grainy video and clicked thru it. I wonder if something this production lacked was perhaps the main character-the ship itself. Obviously in a concert or in any production without a broadway budget it is impossible to do what the original broadway production did but wow they did so much, so theatrically. It really feels like another character in the show and perhaps the

I sorta feel like outsiders should've done Great expectations -> Trouble -> Rumble. I liked the inclusion of the rumble and while I like Tulsa and Grease got a hold they didn't flow naturally into the rumble. Like I feel like if they did the opening to Great Expectations thru "I'd follow them to battle...." then going into Trouble as he follows them to battle there'd be more storytelling going on.

I think with Tony's medleys the key is not to l
